That, my friend, is the real question. However, "Cafesociety" disapproves of the subject, and would like us to refrain. We are allowed, to speak of things like Kix, and FM 100. So, I'm gonna get me a 12+ printout and learn my lesson now. Apparently I am stupid, for not fully endorsing the power of 12+, hopefully this bonus check, for a non 12+ demo, will ease the pain... What YOU don't seem to understand is that your corporation doesn't care about that, especially if the cluster is up for sale. A flip to Jack may not be sustainable for a number of reasons including the ones you bring up, but it would boost the overall numbers for a while. 92.9's signal is more than enough to cover the metro, and in fact the transmiiter is somewhat out east where the cume would be. Shortsighted? Yes. Corporate crap? Yes, but that is the reality. And that's why I left the business after almost three decades.

Do you guys listen to 93X?

Yes, I do, and I know about your presence. Saw you at the NOPI Nationals last weekend. But the fact is you didn't have a stellar book.

I agree 100% with that, and I've posted that same sentiment numerous times on this board. But I stand by what Infinity should do IF they want to unload the staions, (as they have stated). What I would LIKE to happen is for them to make a long term commitment to the community, stay local, and do good radio. Reality is different, which is whay I left....oh, I said that already.

Since you took a low shot at someone you don't know, here's where I tell you I was in radio when you were in diapers or some such crap. But seriosuly, I think you station sounds good, even though it's not my kind of music. But I'm afraid pretty soon that really will be all. I can think like a bean counter, even though I'd rather not.

Re: Diet coke is it?

Well while you cash that big bonus check.. All I was saying is lets talk about a station that actually employs people. wrvr is a good station. Obviously you are saying that they compensate their people very well. They give you bonus checks for obtaining the same ratings that the station has had for 15 years. They also give you the freedom to post online many times during your airshift.

But I think Kix 106 is the story. Even better than the massive .8 that 680am recieved 12+ as wonderful as that is and ofcourse the unholy gains in other secret demo's that only cf kane has access too when his boss is in town. The one employee at that station should be thrilled! I guess in some weird way that makes democrats feel that they are hurting republicans or something?

But in reality it is a station that does not matter to anyone except some entercom vp that decided to run that format instead of simulcast wrvr & you.

So kudos to Kix. What a wonderful party they must have had this week. If you don't know how cool it is to be #1 and non ethnic in memphis....well you get my point. To be honest I did not think I would live to see the day. I bet that it does not happen again for awhile. I hope it does. But I am just going to feel good for the people at Kix and hope they are getting a piece of the action flowing into citadel's bank accounts.

Here is a fun question about a station that matters. Who are the best personalities on kix? Do they deserve to be #1 or are they just taking advantage of being the only station in town with NO competition? Hell there are three sports stations now fighting over a share and a half of sports ratings.

I'll take that question. The Young & Elder show is one of the best AM Country shows (if not THE best) I've ever heard.

What I was saying was that 12+ was not why I received that bonus. Not sure how you missed that... If you wish to keep taking cheap and untrue shot here, "Cafe", feel free, but until you bring some qualifiers to your logic, it's fairly meaningless, anyway. For all we know, you're a jizzmopper with a radio. You know who I am, who the hell are you pretending to be?

Not sure why you want to take me on, personally, and whatever I did to offend you, I am sorry. Even when I defend WWTQ, it's done with a lot of realism, and a lot of sarcasm. The post you reacted to, had me pointing out 4 listeners, and asking about paying up on a bet about that. Did you actually read it, before you called me "Stupid"?

My secret source is "Adults 25-54 6am to 12Mid Spring 2005". Demos are too "Bush League" for "CafeSociety", but should he ever discover what these are, he must be shot immediately, what happens in arbitron, stays in arbitron. The secret of the book must be kept... Yeah, we democrats, do tend to take sides, from time to time, CafeObvious. And that one employee is THRILLED, when you get a break from the mop, call him, he'll tell you.

Two words might explain the sudden success, of kix 106... Cowboy Curtis! WHOO, this magical listener, is the Trifecta of Memphis radio, and might explain a sudden surge in Country listening! Cowboy Curtis, got a diary!

That, dear "Cafesociety" was purposely ridiculous, I don't want to suffer your wrath for having a sense of humor. Kix had an awesome book, most noticable in the 12+, which is why, Mr. society has allowed us to talk about it. I would reveal the magical scrolls called demos, that would actually prove his point further, but the "Da Vinci Code" cannot be revealed here. Those are super secret double probation pages, that I only have access to, HA HA HA! Kudos to WGKX.

> Here is a fun question about a station that matters. Who are

Wow, first #1 in the market, now a "station that matters" from Cafe Society! Now you guys at WGKX can party! As far as the talent at Kix, this where the humor ends. Young and Elder, a drastic improvement over previous AM show, and they were in the 90's too. John Paul, class act, plain and simple, a good guy, in person, and on radio, and PIPES from God! Haven't heard or met Trapper, for obvious reasons. Deb, it was refreshing to hear her again, even voicetracked! Another example, of a great person. Also, much love goes to Saturday night talent, also for obvious reasons. WGKX is far better because of these people, all kidding, and flaming aside...

We can continue this p***ing match, if you'd like, CafeSociety. I don't have a beef with you at all, because I don't know who you are. Sorry my kooky "Demo" logic, miffed you. I do root for WWTQ, and I have a sense of humor about it, can you? Peace. CFKane

Re: If this gauntlet must be thrown...

You are right my apologies for getting worked up. I just wanted to hear about stations that employ people and how they became great. I do realize that you guys have the right to fill up every thread with discussion about AM's that barely scratch the ratings and don't even employ people. I hope all of you have a very happy day.
Now back to my real job as a septic tank cleaner. Once again I apologize to everyone for my tone I got bad information from my secret service and I did not have sexual relations with that woman!

Re: Diet coke is it?

Although I haven't seen these numbers for myself, from the postings it does sound as if Kix did well. I will not comment on their air staff or imagery...I'll only say what I've said for a while.

"Somebody put a friggin' FM Country Station in the Memphis market with a good signal and strength, and quit handing all those agency dollars to KIX!"

With all the mediocre FM's in the market, and all the high-dollar ownerships, what's it going to take to get someone off their @$$ and take it from them?

It's been tried before, and it failed (Froggy), hell. I was all up in it...but it wasn't done right even then. The signal was crap, but it was pretty well recieved where it could be heard. Programming and promotions were questionable.
The on-air staff were adequate for the most part-myself included- but Froggy still gave them a run for their money in most dayparts.
(The Pollywog/Dangerfrog morning show wasn't much of a lead-in for the day)

Now is the time. If you put a good country mix (more classic oldies in the mix, etc.) on a good stick and give it some decent promotion...I bet you could knock their smug asses off that pedestal.

I simply cannot believe all other radios groups in the market have just let them have that for so long. Maybe this book will show somebody enough to convince then that it's time!

If the other numbers are as I read here...there are many stations that might as well give it a shot.
It appears that they have nothing to lose.

BTW CF...Bonus check? hahahahaha! That's a good one. Unless all those Fields guys died and left someone else in charge of Entercom...I don't recall much of a bonus system being in place there. I even hear tell the annual raises have suffered a great deal. What was the last one? 2%? A whopping 2.5%?
Personel is the LAST thing on Entercom's mind.
Also, are you going to miss your business manager? He sounds like such a "people person". haha
Don't forget the suds and links. I'm serious about that.
C'mon up to the real "Country Club" some time.
I'll fix you up with some pretty good tomatoes!

That's why I love "Meep", he gets the sarcasm, immediately! This year's bonus will be paid in Milk coupons. I almost lost it when I saw well compensated, and Entercom in the same sentence! (If any overlords are reading this, this is an example, of the Evil Kane, from episode 313...)

Whoa? You got raises?

NO way, wherever did you hear such a thing about our beloved Business Manager? It's simply not possible, that he could be less forgiving than a loan shark. Stop spreading these lies, about such a personable guy. If you heard anything at all ,like working with him, made Abu Gharib seem like Holiday Inn, correct them immediately. I shant believe it!

Damn straight! Will definitely do that. Evil CFKane, from ep. #313... (Regular CFKane, for one, welcomes his new overlords, and HATES evil satellite radio...)

Re: Diet coke is it?

None of those Frogs had personality to compete with Kix. Nobody from there has done anything since right? You gotta have some talent to take on a big dog like KIX 106 not tomato farmers.

Why are you so big on insults? Can't you make a point with insulting who you are talking to or about? I worked at Froggy. I have also worked in New Orleans, Las Vegas, and LA. I went on to do mornings at the Pig and although as we all know the ratings were less than stellar there were bigger problems than talent (or the lack of it!). I was also the original 7-Midnight jock at Rock 103 when we signed on September 27, 1977. The station had a 3 share in men 18-34 our target and I had an 18 share in the same demo. Not to brag just to show a little credibility. I can make my point without putting someone else down, you are proof of that. Once again why can’t you talk about the station, the format, the imagining, etc without making personal attacks on the airstaff (Tomato Farmers)? Especially when you really don’t know what you are talking about, If I’m not mistaken Larry was also a frog, now doing afternoons and music at the River. Steve West was also with Froggy and moved to Kix! And now has 36 jobs ALL in broadcasting! Meep Meep (to protect his ID) was one of the best sounding jocks around regardless of format left radio because he wanted to. He sounded better than anyone at Kix at the time (none of them are still there). Your opinion would be taken a lot more seriously if you could drop your Jr. High attitude.
