"Today's New Hit County"

I've heard this used as a slogan for at least two stations, and I know one is consulted. Is there a particular consultant that uses this slogan with his/her stations or is it just something that's been reproduced? Personally, it seems a debatable slogan. If it's "new" then it's obviously current and not "yesterday" and if it's very new, is it likely to be a "hit" yet? What's wrong with Today's Hit Country?

I have yet to hear a station that doesn't play at least a few old songs.

One station I listen to when I go to the mountains says, "No hot new country here."

I believe the Dial Global "Hot Country" format that merged with Jones CD Country still uses it. I know of one station in northern Michigan that uses this format but then has a locally originating "Pure Country Gold" show on Sunday mornings where they play songs as old as the 1940s, which is farther back than most Classic Country stations go now. A little jarring maybe, but it's a good show.
