Today's Tornado Outbreaks Proves Local Radio Still Vital

Wow!!! was on the air on 107.9 when it all broke loose Saturday afternooon....I did the best I could to give as much info as possible...Thank you Doug Moreland for helping..A radio station with a real human being giving out information that hopefully helped keep people safe and maybe saved a life..No matter how much technology continues to grow and evolve... being live and local still has a place in our industry..And a big way to go 103.7 for dropping regular programming and airing WITN audio and 88.7 who did the same and had Channel 9's audio...I'm proud to be in radio today....I think we done good....Eastern NC radio should be proud......

What a concept, "local live" information on the radio during an emergency. Hope you didn't get into trouble for breaking format. Are you sure a computer couldn't have done as well? Allen I salute you for a job well done! The station was fortunate to have you there, I hate to think what would have happened if someone with very little experience had been on the air instead of you. I'm sure you'll hear from the consultant for taking the initiative and daring to be so bold. You did "do good".

Thanks guys....Doug Moreland and the folks at channel 9 deserve most of the praise...They did great work...

That is the one huge drawback to satellite radio. You wouldnt receive a tornado warning, or even a severe thunderstorm warning.
