TOH News Service

Anyone know of a good national news service for top of the hour news? Would prefer barter.

Our station just signed on with Fox for the 1-minute newscast. I like the barter terms. Plus you get access to a web site for downloading news clips, story wraps, promo's, liners, etc. Not a bad deal.

Good luck!

Dave

ABC offers a 4 minute TOH (I don't believe they offer a full 5 minute anymore), they also feed a 3 minute newscast (2 min news, 1 min of commercial) and 2 minute newscast (1 min news/1 min commercial) sometime in the last quarter hour

Do you have a contact person for Fox Radio?

I don't work for them or any station affiliated with them, but maybe this could help:

If you are a radio station that would like more information about FOX News Radio and its products please call the number below.

Phone: 212-301-5439

E-mail: [email protected]

Write:
FOX News Radio
1211 Ave. of the Americas
18th floor
New York, NY 10036

General Inquiries: [email protected]

There's also something at the Premiere Radio site for Fox News Radio--now you don't have to be Clear Channel owned to join FNR as Premiere and CCU seem hand in hand. Cumulus stations like KCMO Kansas City and WFAS White Plains carry FNR.

Dave, is that the 1-minute bottom hour cast? Also what station do you work for and who gives you Top hour news?

RobertAnthony, I just saw your question...sorry for not answering sooner. Fox has a 1-minute and a 5-minute package available for barter. The 1-minute news service has a top of the hour feed that is also re-fed at the bottom of the hour. We take the 1-minute toh news during drive times only. Email me if you need additional info.

USA is molded in the old-style of a "full service" network provider. TOH news along with sports reports, business features and such. BUT........USA is very openly biased towards the Christian right. They make no bones about it. Their news copy is written that way and much of their ad revenue comes from sponsors with a very decidedly Christian bend. So..if the make-up of your listening audience tends toward a center/or liberal leaning mindset, they will NOT like the USA product and the net will most likely be a turn off for your listeners. If, however, your audience tends to be more conservative it's would most likely fill your needs.

Do any of these news services allow barter with internet radio stations?

Try QNN:

http://www.qualitynewsnetwork.com/

They're on terrestrial and web stations. For non-coms, it's free. For commercial stations, it's barter or fee.

Interested in carrying the QNN newscasts or America Back on Track?
Any radio station may carry QNN newscasts as long as they report their location, call letters, and frequency for posting on our affiliates list. Commercial stations must carry the full five minutes, including our commercial spots, or pay QNN a small stipend based on market size.

Well, acc. to their website, there are two feeds available to stations:

USA-1 leans toward Christians

USA-2 would be the more mainstream (so to speak) service. Used on stations like WBCB 1490 in Bucks County, PA and WGPA 1100 Bethlehem, PA

Try CNN Radio. They have a top of the hour that can be used as a 2 minute news, 3 minutes or 4 minutes. There are optional cutaways. Bottom of the hour is either 1 minute or 2. (they have an optional cutaway at 31.) CNN Radio also has the 1 minute "CNN in 60" during AM & PM drive times Mon-Fri for FM's, or less traditional sounding formats. Private affiliate website for downloading wraps, actualities, features etc: www.cnnradio.com live Q&A with reporters too.

they are distributed by Westwood One:

ABC Has several different news products.

The information network is usually in larger markets and has a full top of the hour cast--- maybe 5 minutes with spots.

The entertainment network is heard in smaller markets and has a 3 or 4 TOH (depending on daypart) and a :57 2-minute update every hour from 5:57am-10:57pm, I think.

Both of these services also have "status reports" on the story of the moment at 00:30 and 30:30-- making it convenient for local anchors to intro them live. Status reports don't have any spots associated with them.

ABC, under Citadel, has also re-started it's ABC FM news service, but I don't know the details.

CBS also still puts out a good product with a full cast at the top and a minute update at the bottom.

Both ABC and CBS also have websites where you can download audio and even long-form specials.
