Toledo's 11 & 24 Merging

I was watching the news on Toledo's NBC 24 the other night and they announced that they were bought by some company as well as ch. 11 in Toledo. The 2 broadcast stations will be merged.

It's Raycom, they own 19&43.

> It's Raycom, they own 19&43.

Or, more specifically:

* Raycom owns NBC affiliate WNWO/24. Raycom is merging with Liberty, which owns WTOL/11 (CBS).

According to this article in the Toledo paper:

<a target="_blank" href=http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050827/BUSINESS07/508270405/-1/BUSINESS>http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050827/BUSINESS07/508270405/-1/BUSINESS</a>

...industry observers say that Raycom will likely have to sell one of the two stations, likely WNWO/24. I'm not all that conversant on ownership rules, but it appears in a market the size of Toledo, the company isn't permitted a duopoly like it has here in Northeast Ohio with WOIO/19 and WUAB/43.

Thanks for adding the info. Sorry I didn't take note. I'm from Wisconsin and it just happens that I was coming home from a trip out east and stayed overnight at the Days Inn (ex-Super 8) in Swanton, Ohio and I was watching the Toledo news on Thursday night the 25th on WNWO-TV ch. 24 where the News Anchor made the announcment.

I don't think I will ever log WNWO-24 at my DX spot during a strong tropo opening from the east to the Milwaukee area because I have a local UPN on 24 which is a 3,000 kW monster. I have gotten ch. 30 and 36 in the past. But now local PBS affiliate ch. 36 is 24/7. At least local 30 WVCY-TV still goes off the air from 12MID to 8:00 am everyday, so there is a chance to get 30 still.

73s,

I would suspect that you are right about this. Although with the transistion to digital, it becomes a matter of which "image" is kept. As a practical matter, with the degree of cable penetration in Toledo, there is no real "signal" difference between the two. However, WTOL has the stonger presence in the market.
