Tom Ascheim Steps Down as Freeform President (Exclusive)

He has overseen Disney's younger-skewing cable network since 2013 and has another job lined up.
There's a change at the top of Freeform.

Longtime network president Tom Ascheim has opted to exit Disney's younger-skewing cable network. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Ascheim, who was expected to renew his deal, has another post lined up that should be announced shortly. A replacement has not yet been determined.

Ascheim announced his departure Tuesday to staff in a memo, calling his decision "bittersweet." He will remain on board through June before starting his unannounced new post July 1. (Read his memo in full, below.)

Disney will keep Ascheim until July 1st.

Update WarnerMedia announced that they will get Ascheim

AT&T’s Warner Bros. unit said it hired Disney exec Tom Ascheim as president of global kids, young adults and classics at Warner Bros.

Ascheim, who had headed Freeform at The Walt Disney Co., be responsible for global strategy for Cartoon Network, Adults Swim and Boomerang, managing the Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. animation studios and overseeing Turner Classic Movies.

He will be assuming responsibilities formerly handled by Christina Miller, one of many former Turner executives who left after AT&T took over Time Warner last year.

so he stepped down from Freform/Disney to take a job at WarnerMedia/AT&T. I wonder if his new job had a bigger paycheck than his old job.

Yep, the Warner channels he'll run have more homes and is higher profile than the channel he ran at Disney. Plus being in charge of Warner Animation gives him a chance at creating some new content, which they need.

I saw that Pinky and the Brain are coming back.

I saw that Pinky and the Brain are coming back.

Brilliant cartoon. I hope it isn't dumbed down too much in its revival, although I suppose the occasional pop cultural references in it will be current. My favorite episode was the Winnie-the-Pooh takeoff with Christopher Walken as Christopher Robin, Jagger (Mick) as the hyperactive Tigger, and Algore (Yes, the VP) as the morose Eeyore. All three references might be lost on "tween" viewers today.
