Tom Berg

Speaking of Castleton, Tom, if your summertime gig is permanent, my one piece of advice to you is this: At Christmastime, be sure to plan your trip to arrive at the studio plenty early, because it takes an hour to get from 82nd and Allisonville to 82nd and Knue.

I remember that from my days at Metro Traffic. Metro is/was right next door to where WKLU is now.

Even traffic reporters get stuck in traffic sometimes. ;D

So Tom, what's this about the rumored sale of WKLU to a religious broadcaster? Your show is only halfway through the Summer and already talk is that it's in jeopardy.

What would be great is if a WKLU staffer could post a copy of any written notice that Oasis has given them.

If the two weeks notice part is true, there wouldn't be a huge downside to it...agree?

GREAT job over there for a few weeks! looks like Tom stepped into a big pile of SH*T over there.
how soon do they DUMP the format?? 3 or 4 months? or sooner

I say the end of the month latest is when the Sounds of God will be heard on WKLU. I'm surprise EMF didnt take the station Silent till they take full control to purify the Studios of the secular world. Like What Moody Radio did with WXXP/WHUT when they bought them in 1999 to turn them into WGNR. 1470/97.9 was silent for like 4 weeks during the transition

klu had the nicest studio's i've seen for quite some time, are they going to stay there or are they going to sell it and move in the basement of a church? musically KLU sounded pretty damn good, audio was pretty good too, jingles sucked, but the air talent was "Over Programmed" with liner cards= NO PERSONALITY. if somebody else does the format in town, i hope they allow air talent to shine through the format. in my view, the obvious choice to take over this format is 107.9- what they're doing now hasn't worked- they should blow up the 'Track' clean house and go for it. i guess you all know this, they were the "original" WIFE-FM.. if they were to get those calls back and do "Classic Hits" in Indy, talk about HERITAGE!

for Entercom to pry the WIFE-FM call letters out of Rushville would have to be a big deal for rogers like the Connersville station sold to radio one and Cincy
\those call letters mean NOTHING in Rushville, especially on a low wattage automated AM station, but it DOES mean something in Indianapolis especially for the format "Classic Hits"... and i think ALL it means to the owners in Rushville, is for somebody to pay them for the letters, i would if i wanted to re-brand or start a classic hits station in Indy.

WIFE is an AM in Connersville WIFE FM is an FM in Rushville. Since they combo sell them it would be mass confusion.

WAKY did this with re sings of the old jingles etc and it sounded really nice. WAKy existed as a music station until I was in my 20's though. Louisville didn't decide AM radio was worthless until more recently.

But I'm nearly 50 and if you are going for 25-54 what do those calls mean to anyone who doesn't remember calls that haven't been in the market since 1970 something? And more importantly I was 16 or less when anything that sounded like 13 WIFE died. Smokin Greg, Ann Craig (did she start Craigslist), and so on may not be available for a reunion. They kept the calls after they killed the format for a time. If they nuked them in 1976 it will be 33 years since they mean't anything.

The 25-50 section of the 25-54 age group will say "WIFE?" "What does that mean?" Jay Reynolds used to think this was a neat possibility in 1994 but that was 15 years ago. At that time the 25-54 audience would have had the 35-54 portion of the 25-54 market that would have remembered the calls. That's not quite two thirds.

People in Connersville might really think it's cool that they can hear their AM station on FM when they go to Indy.

What about WFBM? Then NO ONE in the 25-54 would have a clue what they meant. Carolyn Churchman RIP. Great lady.

Keep it up and WNTR could find renewed interest in the WTPI calls as there still might be a few people who remembered them. The station hasn't had an identity since it switched calls enough for people to remember the new calls?

The problem with radio is that there are NO NEW IDEAS just old ideas someone steals. WIFE was great in 1970 and anyone who liked it at 20 in 1970 is now (math scholars) 59 and worthless to ad agencies. AND out of the 25-54 demo. So how is this a good idea? It isn't a NEW idea?

We have enough new fragments of music, delivery, demos, etc. Too bad we couldn't do what big companies are doing with reverse stock splits. A reverse format split. Standards. Remember when WIRE and WFBM played the same music and it included Doris Day and Dean Martin? Those days are gone and we are just old dinosaurs wading into the future.

Wouln't it be great if one of the television stations went back to black and white and called it WLWI? I sure would love to watch reruns of Ruth Lyons, Bob Braun, and so on......Chuck Marlowe still around?

I'm right with you Chief on Ruth Lyons and Braun. How about some of David Letterman's influence, Paul Dixon. Ahead of his time.

hey, the WIFE call letters are remembered by the guy who says they wouldn't be remembered IF they were brought back...imagine that.... in Chicago Citadel went BACK to the call letters WLS-FM for their Classic Hits station, it was a no brainer- they EVEN have Dick Biondi on the air(who sounds just like he did in 1960!), it is called "Heritage"... i think everybody "Gets-It" in Chicago, in fact there was alot of Buzz when they reverted back to the calls WLS on the FM, A N D the same would be true if WIFE-FM returned to its "Original" frequency 107.9 doing Classic Hits... i don't think this will ever happen, but IF it did, it would be a great way to kick off the format anew. i don't think you really care if a 20 year old "Gets It" because that is not the target here...

WAKY in Louisville brought back Johnny Randolph as afternoon DJ and didn't WDJO bring back Dusty Rhodes to do mornings?

Johnny Randolph has still been the market.

I know Dusty Rhodes never left. He shared stories from his early days when he was at WLW. The Beatles. His name was on most of the gas pumps in his township for years. He took his radio career and turned it into a government job. And "Trusty Dusty" is a great person too.

As someone pointed out maybe the very small group (that was old enough to remember) WIFE would be very loyal.

Is Super Cooper stil looking for radio work?

WLS-FM is Oldies--not Classic Hits. The station even calls themselves 'The True Oldies Channel'.

Oldies stations usually play only CHR/Top 40 oldies. Classic Hits is a blend of Classic Rock and Oldies.

'Oldies' and 'Classic Hits' are two different formats.

it comes down to whether a station wants to use the term "oldies" or not, or uses the term "classic hits" instead...
"Classics are OLD" and Hits are Hits anyway you slice it....you can make it male leaning by playing the harder rock based hits along with the top-40 hits(both were on the same chart in the 60's and 70's) and if they were not, it was "Album oriented rock, but whatever you call it, the listener PERCEPTION is still "Oldies". what are you going to call music that is 30 years old or older? THEY'RE OLDIES!!!!!
