TOM BROCKWAY PASSES AWAY

Qantum Communications (and SC legend) TOM BROCKWAY passed away yesterday after a long bout with cancer and other health issues. Tom worked just about everywhere in Florence and Myrtle Beach over the last 30 years. RIP Tom...

That really sucks. Brockway was a great radio personality, one of the best in the Peedee. I remember him on 92.9 and other stations like Wheels 92.5.

RIP Mr. Brockway.

I haven't spoken to Tom in years, and didn't know the extent of his illness. I'll always remember him a a big part of the team that took Wave 104 from "worst to first." RIP Tom.

I'm sure there will be many posts on how Tom B touched their lives in radio. First, Tom B was one of my BEST friends. We were roommates back in the 80's while working in Myrtle Beach radio. Through the years, even though I moved to LA and Texas, our friendship grew stronger. I had a chance to visit Tom at Duke Hospital a few days before he passed away. We sat together in that room for two hours and caught up. It was like we hadn't skipped a beat. Time stood still that day as we reminisced about our days signng on Wave 104 in Myrtle Beach and took a nothing station to number one in one ratings period along with the original line-up of Jeff Kelley, Kris Blake and Bob Vandergrift. Tom B had a loyal following in Myrtle Beach and the PeeDee area. We have truly lost one of the great radio personalities and I have lost a GREAT friend!

Wow. Bad spell lately for exceedingly competent radio people and unconditionally quality human beings. Tom WAS a legend. As a fellow Pee Dee native, I can say that Tom was as nice a guy and as great a friend as he was a horror to program against and to compete against. WHVN has a hell of a staff now.

That's a real station. I'm guessing they do. They put a great pop standards station on the air. Now if they can only get advertisers to support it so it won't have to go back to church services and such.

I'd like to hear this story myself.

WHVN was just easier to type, man. I figured WHEAVEN was either begging the question or not as easily understandable, but you get the point.
