Tom Carnegie dies at age 91

The former voice of the Indy 500 (1946-2006) and Channel 6 sports director (1953-85) died today after a long illness. RIP, Tom.

I went to my first race weekend for the Brickyard 400 in 2003. Tom uttered his famous phrase I think four times during qualifications. I think that was the first time the pole sitter kissed the bricks in NASCAR. I hope the Hulman-George family has a 2 mile oval in the great beyond so Mr. Carnegie can continue his work.
