Ever since Citadel took over WPLJ They have made one Bone Head move after another all in the name of cost cutting.

Exhibit A. - Canceling the Rocky Allen Showgram, and thus firing Rocky, Blaine, Onions, and Guy. Heather and Daria were spared the ax because we still need News and traffic.

Exhibit B. - Letting Jersey Girl Diana go from the Big Show

Exhibit C. - Canceling Radio with a Twist and thus eliminating Dennis, Melissa, Ben, and Diane from the airwaves

Exhibit D. - Letting Jason Drew's contract expire, thus making way for him to flock to Sirrius

Exhibit E. - Getting Rid of Mr. Music

Exhibit F. - Getting Rid of Chris Learey in favor of a best of The Big Show (Scott and Todd are awesome but Who likes Best of shows)

Exhibit G. - Bringing in that moron Perez Hilton to do Gossip during the Big Show. Lets face it Patty's reports during the 7am and 9am hours are so much better and more professional not to mention live and local

Exhibit H. - Eliminating Bill Evans from the Big Show and his Weather Reports, which were Live during the Big show and pre-recorded the rest of the day unless there is a storm, and having the weather awkwardly read by the DJ's Plus Bill was an awesome part of the Big Show and his banter with Joe, and him teaming up with Scott and Todd to antagonize Joe in good fun is really missed.

Exhibit I. - Truncating Christine Richie's Shift to a mere 2 hours of on air time in favor of the horrible Billy Bush show

Exhibit J. - Bringing in more Top 40 style songs and less alternative, and adult contemporary songs. Yeah because we need another station that plays Top 40 garbage. You will see pretty soon the Rap and hip hop will appear. They are almost there now

Exhibit K. - Losing the Legendary Tom Cuddy, he made WPLJ into the hit it is today and I hope he does well

Exhibit L. - Getting Rid of the 80's at 8 in favor of The Fan favorite Text or call in Your Requests Hour. Thus eliminating 5 hours a week of great 80's music. Its only a matter of time before they get rid of Saturday Night 80's


So here is my close to this long Rant. I think WPLJ is going to flip formats soon. My guess is they will flip to a Hot Hits/Hot Talk format mixing talk and Music all day long and only syndicated Show, but keep Scott and Todd because lets face it WPLJ is only a huge ratings success Mon - Fri from 6 - 10am. Here is a sample of what could be the new WPLJ schedule:

Monday - Friday:

6am - 10am - The Big Show with Scott and Todd (because they are the one thing that works for the station)
10am - 3pm - The Billy Bush Show (New Time Slot)
3pm - 7pm - The Radio Chick (she did NY afternoon drive before, and could insert music into her show)
7pm - Midnight - Jayne (sort of the anti Delilah and would fit well with WPLJ's Soccer Mom target audience)
Midnight - 3am - Loveline Uncensored (this had success when Z100 played what WPLJ does now)
3am - 6am - Kidd Kraddick in the Morning (Light Humor, PLJ's music fits well)

Weekends:
Music and stunts this would be programmed locally

6am - 10am - Race Taylor (Race Taylor's Daily Dish)
10am - 3pm - Joey Kramer (Sunday Brunch All Request Call In)
3pm - 7pm - Blake Hayes (Backstage with Blake)
7pm - Midnight - Christine Richie (Saturday Night 80's call In)
Midnight - 3am - Bill Ayers (Ayers Program)
3am - 6am - Dave Stewart (The Overnight Satelite)

Even though Rocky was not as good the second time around, he's still far more entertaining than Race Taylor is. Race is a great guy to talk to in person, but I don't listen to his show and miss Rocky. I don't mind not hearing Diana anymore...but her Rock of Love Updates where priceless. I found Brucer the Producer a bit more interesting, with that Beat the Brucer game that used to go on forever....

Twist was that gay show? No big loss there. Most of PLJ's Audience is women. Most syndicated shows are terrible anyway, take a look at that snore of a show my parents like, called Delilah.... and the aforementioned Billy Bush. They couldn't have put together a worse sounding preview. Who cares what Billy thinks about 'that OCTO.....mom'...as he says it in the preview? It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks Perez Hilton is a glorified idiot no better than the paparazzi...and that Patty is far more fun and interesting to listen too anyway.

Most people didn't know who Mr.Music was. I haven't heard him in a while, so I didn't know he was gone from the show. Bill Evans getting canned was the stupidest idea since hiring that idiot Perez Hilton to do live interstitials' with S and T. Now they have no one to keep them up to date on things like Blizzards, severe thunderstorms, even the rare tropical storms. Plus, as stated, his banter with Joe has lead to some of the top ten moments in big show history.

And yeah, no one listens to Best of Shows. Well, let me rephrase that. If they edited them together to include full segments, and aired more than one weeks worth of Best Of, people might tune in. I swear each time they go on vacation, it's the SAME FIVE Best Of Shows run every time. I know it takes work to do and sift through all the tapes, but I'd tune in if we got some stuff in chronological order from 1991 onward.

Right now, I'm just happy S and T are still on. But it's amazing how fast on air Citadel went to being the savior of the company, to being made fun of weekly for their 25 cent stock.

Oh, BTW: Rocky Allen's web page has been updated a month ago, claiming 'stay tuned for news'. If anyone knows what that means, let us know

jason drew was not under contract and he came from sirius to plj. because radio with a twist was cancelled by plj does not mean that the hosts lost their jobs. they were under the employ of premiere(aka clear channel). chris leary is on plj sunday mornings as part of fox all access.

Thank you for the corrections and the comments. I am just saying that WPLJ was way better under the Disney/ABC family. Citadel is horrible. Christine Richies talent is so lost now, plus has any one else noticed they play like the same songs 3 or 4 times a day. 80's at 8 should return. As an aside, go see Rock of Ages if you like 80's music it is incredible I really miss Rocky and Blaine Dick Trouser and his mom was a highlight of my evening commute like phone scams of my morning commute. Well If they keep going in this direction they will for sure be done before the year strikes 2010.

Hate to break it to you, but they've been doing that for the last 5 years at least. EVERY station plays the same old crap, or in case of the rap or hard rock, same old bad crap.

Their Variety commercials are a joke.
