Tom Dillon Salute

Digging through my audio archives, I ran across a great promo we ran for the late Tom Dillon in year 2000 when I was PD at KFYI. The audio is posted here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/8gmmcv

Being the pro that he was, Tom did his part in one-take, off the top of his head (perfectly, of course).

Audio I wish I had was from 1996 when I was PD at KTAR -- when the incomparable night host Bill Straus staged a wonderful event where he firewalked across hot coals in the parking lot behind Eddie Matney's old restaurant on N 7th Street. We asked Tom to do a live "play-by-play", which of course he did superbly (and it really made the event come alive on-air).

Easy to see why Tom was voted Sportcaster of the Year for 18 years running. Extremely versatile.

He is missed -- but always with us.

You have no way of knowing who is posing as who on the internet message baords. But, when you see 'when I was' 2x in several sentences, I believe we have comfirmed the ID of this poster is indeed Mr. Wallace.

Thanks for posting the promo, TW3! Kinda bizzare to hear KFWhyEye 9~Ten...guess Nurse Jeff and I are approaching the age of our 76 Gremlin Levi's Special! YIKES!!

Todd,

The promo brought a smile to my face. It's humorous, clever, and entertaining. It also took me back. It was the longest time for me not to associate "910" with "KFYI". On top of that, I do recognize the voice of Tom Dillon after all. Thank you for this special salute-- not just anyone would take the time and do-- and thanks for sharing it and your story here.

I've read all kinds of great things said about him. I'm thinking most of us here can tastefully show respect and appreciate what a top-notch broadcaster he was. No doubt the promo of Tom Dillon brought smiles to more faces than just mine, and from all I've read about him, this is something it seems he would love! Perfect choice. Thanks again, Todd!

Hey Todd, the link has a virus on it. It causes a zillion pop ups that the only way to stop it is to shut down and run norton

I just checked this out myself. First visit, I got notice of a virus; second and third visits, I did not. Has to be our computers combined with the possibility of the actual advertisement running on page at the time to have something. There's nothing the owner of an uploaded file can do about it. I'm sure SendSpace is already working on fixing it. In all the time I've used SendSpace myself, I've never had a problem with it whatsoever.

Just to clarify, the downloading of the .wav file itself is totally safe.
