I am very saddened to let you know that "Brother" Tom Dooley passed away at his home this morning. Tom was a legendary radio guy with some of the best pipes in the business. Tom was a good friend and a great mentor and will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Brother Dooley

Nothing worse than Hannity, Levin or Limbaugh has said about the current administration, with, God forbid, no chance of termination for any of them.

Sorry for Dooley's family and friends, but I was no fan...and I'll tell you why: Called up KVIL one morning in 1985, when the station was doing its famous, annual Prize Catalog contest. They ran through the numbers so quickly that my boss didn't hear them or understand them (and she was a DIEHARD K-vil fan and played every contest and listened to the station, literally, 12 hours a day or more.) I called, Dooley answered the phone, I asked him to repeat the numbers, and he screamed, "LISTEN TO THE RADIO!!!!" and slammed the phone down. A few months later, Chapman let him go, and, as I understand it, it was due to an attitude issue.

Yeah, that overshadows my opinion of someone who did have a pretty stellar radio career. Still, my condolences to those who admired and loved him.
 
Worked with Tom at KLIF in late '82 and '83. Unbelievable pipes. And a great guy. My only 'beef' with him.......he was always trying to convert me, constantly bombarding me with scripture and wanting to pray for me. Nothing wrong with that....I guess. Except it should never happen in the workplace. Nevertheless, we got along okay. I last saw him one day in 2002 when he dropped by USA Radio Network. My condolences to the family.

I'd forgotten about it until Jim Prewitt sent it to me today.

Tom Dooley hated working at KHJ. One night he called WAKY Louisville PD Johnny Randolph ranting about how he hated the place. Randolph said he had a job in Louisville but Dooley had a contract that had to be purchased if he left. Randolph told Dooley to do something outrageous on the air so they would fire him. Dooley did and legend has it his wife waited outside of 5515 Melrose in a U-Haul ready to leave for Louisville. I've been told his Nixon comments were just a few hours prior to Nixon resignation speech.
