The only news anchor I know of who could say live on air to a female reporter "you look gorgeous today!" this decade and get away with it. I think this is the end of the line for Ellis.

I only get the station via my TV's QAM tuner. Comcast dropped it off their analog lineup months ago. That channel is too Boston-centric for my liking anyways.

I agree with one of the posters on the boston.com site. Maybe at 50 or 55, it sucks to lose an on-air TV job but at 76...it's time to let someone else in. It's not like Sunday afternoons is a huge draw for regional TV news or any timeslot on NECN for that matter. Ellis has been very lucky and blessed to anchor in the same market for such a long time. It's been a good run for Ellis and he should feel proud of all his accomplishments in Boston TV. However, the time has come to let someone much younger and less experienced cut their teeth on weekends so they can have a shot at a TV career.

I had the pleasure and honor to work with Tom many years ago. He always was and still is a gentleman and professional.

On an OT tangent, Judging by the number of throw-away PI commercials run on NECN and the channel's growing irrelevance in the Boston market, the network will probably go dark by June at the latest.
