And worse, a guy that spouts off about Black This Black that and screw everyone else. The problem with that viewpoint in a city like Los Angeles is, 40% of the population is Hispanic and 15% are Asian and another 10% are of other decent. Just 7% of LA's population is Black and that has been declining for quite some time. Plus, Joyner was heard on the former Urban Oldies outlet KACE 103.9/KRTO 98.3(now KRCD/KRCV Recurdo Spanish Variety Hits) and he totally flopped in the ratings and he was last heard in 2000. Not a good move, hell, they would have been better off hiring Bill Clinton, at least he made everyone happy<P ID="signature">______________

Yes, that is very true. Although a lot of the inner city Black population has sold their property (in a booming real estate market) and moved to areas like Riverside, San Bernardino, and Las Vegas.

I believe Watts is now more Hispanic than Black.

The thing is if KKBT brings in Joyner (and rumor is Baisden for middays), they will be Urban AC during the day - fighting with KJLH and KHHT (which has a very strong Black listenership). Plus. KDAY also has some older end Black - and KTWV has a very good Black audience. Pretty cluttered area they are going into.

^Thank you for stating the obvious. The black population in LA has not been declining. Just go to the US census website and look at the actual numbers. The percentage has dropped due to larger Hispanic growth but the numbers of African Americans in LA are still growing, slowly, but growing.

Is Wendy Williams still on overnights on the Beat? If so, a good portion of The Beat is going to be syndicated product. Very similar to WBLS in NYC.

Is this the begining of the end?

I whould say they are doing better than cbs radio

Not really because CBS has top billers like KNX, WPGC, and WVEE in their portfolio, so they are far from going broke. Radio One has zero top bills in any of the major markets.

I understand that they are the "urban specialist" but damn all they are doing in the industry (it would seem to me) is deeping the race line by constantly throwing it in everyone's face. back in college we had some radio one folks from Raleigh come talk to us and they KEPT bringing up race race race and there was maybe 5 black people out of 20 in our class. Personally, I can't stand to listen to TJ or even Russ Parr because they are constantly playing the civil rights-white devil-white oppressor-conservatives are idiots-card. It probably scares off people with the same views but are tired of hearing it.

Speak the truth Big Ben! Radio One is definitely making things worse with their racist programming, from Tom Joyner to Al Sharpton. These guys are not providing solutions to the problems in the black community. They are only stirring up more anger and racist blacks. Radio One, along with other corporate urban stations, have gone downhill with the rise of the blame the white man Black Talk radio, vulgar/irresponsibile hip hop music and the racist crew of entertainment shows like Tom Joyner and Russ Parr. I hear comments from black people who listen to Tom Joyner daily and I never heard such racial hyprocrisy. One person mentioned a remark by Tom Joyner who said "if a white talk show host mimick black people in the same manner we mimick white people, then a major outcry would occur among blacks." Now, that is racial hypocrisy. If you are looking for some alternative talk shows from black hosts who have speak on truth and responsibility, you may want to try "The Joshua's Trail Show" with Levon Yuille which live streams Saturday mornings at 9am EDT at www.wdtkam.com and replays Saturdays at 2pm EDT at www.am1500wlqv.com.
