TOM JOYNER OUT AT 100.3 - PHILLY

Radio One Philadelphia flipped 100.3 WR&B to OLD SCHOOL 100.3 as I said in a previous post. They also got rid of Tom Joyner in the mornings!!! Didn't see that coming. Across the hall at Radio One, sister station HOT 107.9 Philly launched a new local morning show this morning! Is this is a sign that Urban listeners prefer local morning drive?

Maybe in Philly, But I don’t see it as a national trend. I like the national feel of syndicated morning shows like TJMS. Besides, just because its local doesn’t mean it will be entertaining. There are opportunities for local content during mid-days and other day parts. Since Radio One owns a significant portion of Tom Joyner’s Reach Media, I would venture to guess TJMS absence in Philly is temporary.

Since Tom Joyner IS Radio One...I'd be VERY surprised if Tom Joyner being off is what's going to happen. They may just be a stunt and get people used to the Old School. No way. If they hire a local morning show and drop Joyner I'd be surprised. Who would they get to compete against Harvey?

As far as 107.9. They had Radio One Syndicated show Rickey Smiley which didn't the Philly market. Its a down south show out of Atlanta formally Dallas. Joyner works in Philly.

Now days, you just can't keep up with Radio One. They are over the place.

Radio One dropped Tom Joyner when he was on 100.3 in LA years ago. He was on for 6 months. Its very possible history can repeat itself. But the Philly situation is different I understand.
