I've always kinda liked TK.

He can be funny. Are you in country music now?

Yeah, Tom is a pretty good guy, too. Great jock. And yes, I did venture into the Land of Twang. How have you been?

You can see I'm "Still around".. Annoying Liberal and still smitten with old school Top 40 radio. How is Lujack the cat?

Thanks for the welcome back, Silkie. And MsMusicRadio, sadly, Lujack passed away in June. It was a sad, sad day. But I have two more cats now...Pandora and Landecker. They're a handful, but they constantly crack me up. Thanks for axin'.

So is this JJ voice tracking, doing a simulcast, or did he move here to escape the bitter cold and poor mass transit

I guess JJ stands for Jo Jo ? Jo Jo Kincaid, Jo Jo Morales (WQKC) and JoJo Walker. I never met anybody named JoJo that wasn't in radio!

maybe I'm cofused, but doesn't JT do middays and JJ evenings at WOMC?

And the same JT (and Rick Hunter) from WOMC that are piped into Q-105 on weekends. When will 'Q' go back to being live and local from 7 to 11pm, MusicMan? ???

Not as long as CBS runs it! If they can fire someone and have it run from the bird and nobody bitches about and they can save the small salery or part-time wages they would have to pay, that's the way it will be. But it's not just CBS, it's Clear Channel, Cox and all the rest. If something happens after 7PM and you only have a radio for news, your screwed until 6AM. What ever happen to the 80-20 Law...you know 80% local-20%national. They are all breaking that law and the FCC turns a deaf ear to it. Such is the state of has been great in the past RADIO. May it rest in peace. It all started with Lowelly Mays and Clear Channel and all the other groups followed down the yellow brick road. Cut talent and pipe in Ryan (can't adlib a fart) Seacrest or Elvis (I don't know which rock star I like best) Durran at a faction of the cost of live and local talent. Screw the local market, they have Wall Street to worry about. All as they line their pockets and the few that are left are doing 4 and 5 different jobs to take up the slack. And these guys that run the companies still can't make a profit...because, they are not RADIO PEOPLE! Radio has and always will be a people median, not a computer run jucke box with piped in voice tracking. Until the people who listen wake up and say "I'm mad as HELL and I'm not going to take it anymore", it will never change. Sorry for the rant...but it's just the facts and you and I know that it's true!

Maybe you are missing something, but by all means rant away.

Let me know what I missed and I'll try and fill in the holes! LOL : ;)

When I was 15, Tom replaced John Landecker on WLS at night. Being a big Landecker "Records truly is my middle name" fan, I was unhappy about this. But I soon grew to enjoy and appreciate T.K. as well.

Somewhere, I have tape of T.K. from the spring of 1980. After the "Eighty-Nine, Double-U-Ellll-Esss" jingle is fired, he proceeds to talk up the entire intro of Van Halen's "And the Cradle will Rock...", hitting EVERY sub-post in the process. Great stuff! Double coolness points for Van Halen on AM radio! I need to find this and post it on my website.

No, Tom Kent was hired as swing & weekends at WLS. Landecker had long since moved to Afternoons at that point - so not so sure why you would have been mad at TK for that. When Yvonne ended up with Cancer, he did end up doing overnights as a fill in for a very extended period.

JoJo - love ya brother but what in the world are you talking about? There is no 80-20 law. Sort of hard to break a law that doesn't exist.

EDIT: I think you are thinking of 80-90 from the early 1980s - which was essentially use it or loose it. It made FM stations go to their full authorization (basically 2000ft and 100kw in Tampa) or be downgraded. Its what caused all the move ins during the 80s (but not until the early 90s in Tampa). It has nothing to do with local content.

The only other thing you could possibly be thinking of was the 75/25 for simulcasts - which is why Q105 could only simulcast for 25% of the time. This rule was abandoned around 1987 when Q105 went to a 24 hour simulcast.
