Tom Kent

Q should run TK from 12AM to 5PM and it would sound almost like somebody is there even if he isn't. Would be better than robo jock and I'd rather fall asleep to Tom's voice than the robo on all the other stations.

If something happens after 7PM and you only have a radio for news, your screwed until 6AM.

I hate to break it to you, but if a terrorist attack happened after 7 PM, there are no emergency officials standing ready to leap into action. Most of these folks are on call, and could get to a scene in an hour. Same with radio. If the government doesn’t staff for 24/7 emergencies, why should a private business? It’s been this way for a very long time.

Such is the state of has been great in the past RADIO. May it rest in peace.

I urge you to study the history of radio. Back in the 30s and 40s, local radio stations switched to network feeds in prime time. Those stations that weren’t lucky enough to be affiliates would simply sign off. And they called that the Golden Age of Radio.

Cut talent and pipe in Ryan (can't adlib a fart) Seacrest or Elvis (I don't know which rock star I like best) Durran at a faction of the cost of live and local talent.

You obviously don’t know how much those guys make. Tell me the local talent who makes as much as Seacrest. The reason they’re replacing local talent is because people know who they are. And they have talent. They don’t just happen to live in town, and are convenient. The quality of local talent has gone downhill. It’s not just money.

Screw the local market, they have Wall Street to worry about.

That may have been true five years ago, but not any more. Clear Channel is a private company, and CBS is mainly a TV company. Although, have you seen Q105’s ratings lately? They aren’t screwing the local market, because they’re in the Top 5. Clearly, Tampa likes what they’re doing.

And these guys that run the companies still can't make a profit...because, they are not RADIO PEOPLE!

Most of them have been in radio longer than you’ve been alive. Some of them are second generation radio people. I promise you that if you brought back your favorite “radio people” from the grave to run these stations today, they’d have the exact same problems.

Radio has and always will be a people median, not a computer run jucke box with piped in voice tracking.

Are you making this stuff up? Back in the 60s, there were lots of radio stations that ran reel to reel tapes all day. They were called “automated” stations. They didn’t have computers, but they had relay switches. One tape deck would stop, and it would trigger the next one. It’s estimated that about a third of the radio stations were automated 45 years ago.

Until the people who listen wake up and say "I'm mad as HELL and I'm not going to take it anymore", it will never change.

The people who listen have made Q105 one of the most listened-to radio stations in Tampa. The people have spoken, and they don’t agree with you. Deal with it.

Its a cold business I guess. Q105 was my favorite station before the house cleaning and people getting fired is not good, but compared to what Cox and CC are bringing to this market, it is still my favorite station. You can hardly fire anybody from Cox, but they still manage it somehow.
