As of today, his contract with CBS San Francisco has expired. KYCY/KYOU Radio 1550 a.m. will not be airing his show anymore.

It was said that KYCY, or K-You Radio, or K-YUCKY, or whatever they wish to call itself, is
going more and more toward a Moneytalk format (Gawd, those Ray Lucia Show-jingles are
annoying!), and though the Oakland A's games are "safe," what does this eventually
mean for the K-YOU "podcasts" on the weekends?

Used to love Leykis...but then something ( I don't know what - maybe divorces) turned him into something else altogether...bitter was just one adjective I thought of.

Yes - when his show was first run in the Bay Area in the early-mid 90s (on 95.7 KPIX, I think), he was unapologetically liberal, and billed himself as the anecdote to right-wing talk radio. He was funny when he complained about the local station in LA that fired him - referring to it as
"KKK-FI.". Leykis was the guy they booted to put in right-wing ex-LA Police Chief Darryl Gates.

Somewhere along the line, he changed his show to an anti-woman rant. I don't know if it was personal bitterness, or because he figured out that misogyny was a better ratings magnet that liberal politics.

Leykis transformation was actually a great move on his part because he realized that very few liberal newstalk hosts were making it on the national stage. With his debut as the afternoon guy on KLSX which was a house built by Howard Stern, he realized that by positioning himself as a Stern-lite misogynist, he could complement Stern not only on KLSX but on other Stern stations around the country.

So he reinvented himself as a survival mode. Disingenous? Probably. But it beats working a living. And considering what he is making, his reinvention from lefty political talker to T&A shocker was a killer strategy.

...Leykis' first San Francisco affiliate was KSFO. His Los Angeles affiliate at the time was the original KMPC (now KSPN); ABC had just bought both KSFO and KMPC. And he stated regularly on-air that he wasn't a liberal but a moderate; it was Westwood One that tried to hype him as "liberal" compared to the polluted sea of Reich-wingers that we've been flooded with since around '89. Unfortunately, neither KMPC or KSFO promoted his show worth a damn, so both stations tanked in the ratings and eventually flipped formats. His current show is hardly a stream of "mysogyny," it's merely anti-bullspit, particularly in relation to sexual interpersonal politics. It's hardly in conflict to what he was doing in 1994...

When he was on KFI in the late 80's and early 90's, he provided a nice foil to Rush...however, his later KLSX show was more like a weak Howard Stern wannabe. unnotable.

I don't think I said what Leykis was doing now was "in conflict" with his show in the mid 90s, and it's certainly possible to be politically liberal in most ways, and still be anti-feminist.

Like any political movement that has become widespread and ingrained in society, feminism has silly "bullspit" attached to it, and has developed a lot of automatic political correctness that deserves to be satirized and punctured. There's nothing wrong with that, and it could make for funny and entertaining radio. But Leykis goes w-a-y beyond that, in my opinion, trashing women in a very personal way. I'd call it mysogny, and I think it's more hostile than Stern's infantile T & A and potty humor.

If people want to listen to Leykis on the radio, I have no problem with his show being there - I'll just listen to something else...but I'm not sorry to see him go, either.

Please don't shoot the messenger, guys, but the word is spelled "misogyny."

And now, back to Tom Leykis getting booted from SF here on radio-info.com.

An earlier poster was right; Bill Press isn't getting well over $3 million a year to do his show. Leykis made a smart move after 200-some affiliates starting dropping him, I believe after an election cycle. He had to keep the big markets to survive, so he/WW1 figured there was a niche for "cosmopolitan" big market listeners to hear a show for guys.

By the way, if Leykis is a misogynist, Oprah is a misandrist.

Lew, you have nailed it!
Interesting how he's doing so well in LA but not in the Bay area.

Years ago in 1994 when TL first returned to SoCal airwaves on "710 Talk" he had a listener party at an LA restaurant that I went to with Mrs SuperRadioFan. Tom had pictures of John and Ken pinned onto a pinata and bashed the hell out of them. I find it particularly ironic that in that recent poll by (I think it was) Talkers magazine in which Leykis was rated #33 ... directly below the #32 entry ... John & Ken. :D

john and ken bombed in SF too.

Yep that's why they're not syndicated anymore. I don't think they were syndicated for a long time, do you remember what station and shift they were on in SF? I'd be interested to know.
