Tom McCarthy on Metro

I just got back from picking up more bratwurst and on my way to the store, I was playing KPLU on the radio. Then they did a traffic update and it took me a few seconds to figure out who this familiar voice was, but I'm glad Tom's back on the radio. Sounding great too.....

I'm not really familiar with his work at KWRM (not my demographic; I've NEVER listened to that station) but he sounds great doing traffic at Metro and doing the weekend news at KIRO-FM. The only flub he's made (and I've heard him do it three times) is mix up whether he is doing traffic for KOMO or KIRO (I've heard him say KIRO on KOMO and KOMO on KIRO).

He's a lot better than some of the more recent talent at Metro. Listening to KOMO in the evenings makes me really miss Jeff French.

Tom's former co-worker Daryl Summers and former KMTT air talent Tami Bennett have also recently filled in at Total Traffic (and IMO all sound a LOT better than some who have regular shifts there).

Nice for Tom McCarthy to be back with GINA TUTTLE! See Tom, you can be away from KRWM 106.9, but you'll never be away from your traffic buddy.

And I miss Darryl Summers on Warm and I'm glad she has a job again in Seattle radio.

I thought the same thing when I heard him on Metro around the first of June. Then he gave his name and I was like.... AHHHHHH

I heard his voice and thought "That sounds like Tom McCarthy". And right on cue "I'm Tom McCarthy, 88-5 KPLU....."

I listened to a Tom McCarthy newscast on KIRO this afternoon. Tremendous delivery doing the news. I really like his upbeat delivery. It sounds good and truly is a breath of fresh air in news/talk in this market. The way he delivers the closing liners at the end of his newscast is tremendous. If KIRO sounded like this all the time, they might have better ratings.

aww, guys, you are too kind. Lisa VanCise told me about this, then my pal Daryl Summers sent an email.

Hey if I was that good, I'd have a full-time job! :p It has been challenging writing and delivering news again. Been more than a few years since I did that, and have been very impressed with the level of professionalism in the KIRO-FM newsroom.
Also, their studios are the absolute slickest I've ever worked in!
Gina and the crew at (the former Metro) Total Traffic are lots of fun, too. I tease them it's become a 'rest home' for washed-up DJs.

I noticed that, though nobody's actually washed up. There's just nowhere else to go right now......

I keep forgetting they changed the name of Metro (who can keep up with all these corporate name changes these days?) I guess it will always be Metro in the back of our minds.....
