TOM PETTY ON COS??

S

Still on the Radio

Guest
So, I was listening to WCOS the other day..among the country, I also heard Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and the Doobies??

Wow. Must have been a DB mess-up.

The storms tonight did a number on Steve-FM and NOK. Both had really bad audio problems. Judging from the sound if it, it appeared to be related to the HD-R systems. NOK sounded like all the audio was being run through digital corduroy...

Maybe the Doobs on COS was them testing the new Outlaw 97.5 where this hours music was brought to you by Dodge Land of Columbia ;D ;D ;D!!! CC1

It's no mistake. I lot of Southern Classic Rock in the mix. Guess we'll see how well that works.

97.5 The Beat, here we come. Think of all the heart-attacks that would cause in trailers and pick-ups across the Midlands...

Sounds like they are doing in Cola Town what they are doing in ATL... If it works good for them if it fails and Double O stays the course with their two stations then we could have a new country champ in Columbia with weaker sticks... CC1

Wow I have to say this would be an interesting move. It would definately affect the Fox! I say GO COS and change it up a bit.

I talked to my aunt who lives in Kershaw tonight and she has been listening to COS even when George Buck GHB owned that station and she has left the building and is now listening to WSOC in Charlotte... She hated those songs when they were popular and now she said she gets to hate them all again... I guess with those great numbers COS has been pulling of late something had to be done, but how many of the loyal following will give up all together on the not so Great 98... CC1

A HUGE mistake. But I'm listening online right now and I can see why they made it - this station is BO-RINNNNNNNNGGG.

How can a Top 100 market country station sound so....blah? And although I haven't heard a rock song yet in the last 5 or 6 songs, to me this seems like a desperation play instead intelligent programming. To my knowledge, this approach has never worked (mixing rock and country). If I were across town, I would have thrown a party today.

Come around the winter book we will see by then how this will shake out... This seems like how CC wants most of their country stations to sound IE Outlaw in Dallas, The Bull in Atlanta, and now WCOS in Columbia... Has CC started to tinker with 96.9 The Kat in Charlotte yet??? If so 96.9 would come full circle on how Thunder 96.9 started out... CC1

Okay, I get the Eagles and Mellencamp. But "Get Closer" by Seals & Crofts? And "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray? And Georgia Sat's "Keep Your Hands To Yourself?" I'm all for mixing it up...but going from this back in to Alan Jackson?

This is something you do when you come on against a WCOS, not what you do if you are WCOS. They are acting like scared children. You are the big dog. Act like it!

Ok, took the time to actually listen to their morning show this morning (at least part of it).

Charlie and Pam are....like the station .... BOOOO-RINNNNG. Their big phone topic??? "Hey, how do you take your coffee?".

Oh, for the love of....

COS has been paving the way for their competition to succeed. Now, the final asphalt has been laid down and Double-O just needs to rev up the steamroller.

wow guys, i guess i am in the minority here, but I love it! WCOS now has a way to steal numbers from B, Fox, New 92, and Country Legends. Most of you think they are going in the wrong direction, but honestly, how long did you think it would take before someone made a move? I used to be a big country music fan 10-15 years ago and have only listened partially to some of the new music while still loving the old stuff. WCOS may be in my presets now that they are a country/rock format. Again, I know I am in the minority here. (Ducking from the eggs being thrown at me!)

Here's my point regarding COS:

Now, granted, I was listening online so SOME of the listening experience would be different than if I were listening over the airwaves, but last night I listened for quite some time. The music was, for the most part, a ballad or mid-tempo at best - almost a flatline over the course of 30-45 minutes. The imaging that I heard did NOT stand out, it was very much in line with the flatline effect I was getting from the music. And the evening jock did nothing to rise above the music and the imaging. The overall listening experience I had was one of listening to a radio station that was just.....sitting there. Motionless.

Then, this morning, listening to Charlie & Pam, I would say they would be MUCH more at home on a SOFT ac station, not even a middle of the road AC. Tomorrow I will jump back online and listen in the midday, but I don't expect much of a change.

Country is a fairly exciting genre of music to put on a radio station these days...and COS makes me feel like I am listening to a beautiful music station from the late 80's. Just horrible.

Please note, I say ALL of the above with no chip on my shoulder towards COS, any of their employees or Clear Channel. It's just my take on the station.

You also have to remember if you are listening to them after 7:00 in the evening, they are tracked and are going to sound like you have described and that is something that Clear Channel unfortunately has a real history of doing with their stations because they seem to be too cheap to otherwise.
