Tom Petty's New Album

So our local "classic rock" station has done ZERO promotions or mentions about Tom Petty's new album. However, our local adult alternative station has played his new song in rotation and seems to do a good job of mentioning the new album.

Any local CR outlets mention this album?

Of course not! In radio, "Classic Rock" refers to songs recorded and released within a certain date range. Even when core artists from the classic rock era release new recordings, that doesn't fit the narrow definition of "classic rock" that prevails on the radio. Face it, the people deciding what gets added to the playlist of any station don't know about or care about music, they care about things they read on computer printouts.

Everyone, please don't misconstrue what I've said about the way that the suits determine their tightly researched playlists as criticism of any sort, or of being any sort of complaint. Business is business. I understand why they do what they do. I hope all of them are equally understanding about why more and more of us rely on media other than terrestrial broadcast radio for audio entertainment and information.
