Emmis Indianapolis Market Manager Tom Severino passed away last night (7/5/09).

Tom had been battling cancer over the past five months.

I hadn't heard that he was ill.

My regards to the family and Emmis staffers.

Great guy...so sorry to hear this! My thoughts and prayers are with the Emmis and Severino families.

Met him with a handshake a couple of times... But, read his history... Loyal and as midwest as you can get.... A signature Indy-Cincy radio guy.... My prayers to his family and I am sure he will be hard to replace on the circle in Indy.....

About a month ago, I heard from Tom's friend, John Blassingame, that Tom had been diagnosed with lung cancer. My heart sank, because I always remember Tom with either a cigarette or cigar in his hand whenever he was outside of the "no smoking" areas at industry conventions. I knew Tom professionally for about 15 years. He was optimistic, energetic, and always had a broad smile for me whenever we spotted each other. He was a great manager and a terrific guy. If you never had the opportunity to meet him, then you missed the chance to get to know one of the "best of the best." Even through the tough times, Tom was the one convinced he and his team could "get through it" and move on to better times. If anyone has any information about a memorial or whether or not the family is suggesting donations be made in Tom's name to a specific charity, please post it here. Thanks.

A calling will be held in the Emmis Communications Building this Thursday, 7/9, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Mass will be held in Tom's honor at a yet to be named church. Family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Tom's memory. More details will follow.

Wonder if Jeff would consider one section of sidewalk, near the Emmis entrance inscribed? Tom walked that walk and with clients and staff, alike! ;)

As promised, here's additional information on Tom's celebration of life...

Thursday, July 9 - Calling from 3p - 8p in the Emmis lobby

Friday, July 10 - 10a Mass for Tom at Holy Rosary Church, 520 Stevens Street (that's one block east of Eli Lilly Headquarters)

Friday, July 10 - following Mass a celebration of Tom's life in the Emmis lobby...i suspect cigars and Grey Goose could be on the menu (before I get flamed please allow a little levity to relieve sadness during times like this)

Saturday, July 11 - re-building the Emmis lobby
