TOM ST JOHN B-GONE SOON

It's on All Access. After 8 years, TSJ goes (back) to Greater Media, Boston for an engineering/IT position. His last day is this Friday. There goes another fixture at the station & in the market. Voicetracked or not, hopefully the night shift at B101 will be handled locally. Sometimes I have to wonder where the future fixtures are going to come from.

Can we say "Syndication"?
Syndication would sound lot better than this Voice track crap.

By the way ....

Good luck Tom.

Something like this

Tom didn't do a bad job voice tracking and the show was partially voice tracked even before CC decided to stop doing live and local radio after morning drive.Although I always felt he would have been a better fit middays and stick McMann,CC's hired hand,on nights.Whether voice tracking or syndicated is better depends on who is doing the voice tracking.I think they will need a live body in the building to replace him so I would assume that person will voice track the shift.Don't they need a MD and APD now or is the new PD really just an MD and APD with Jim Corwin essentially doing the programming?

I will be surprized if anyone ATTEMPTS to do as much as Tom did with a limited playlist and resourses. I predict it will be mailed in or syndicated. Lets see what happens to the weekends now also. No one is going to put in the time to research all that Tom did. What's left of the creativity is lost. Good Luck Tom!!!

Tom St. John was arguably the hardest working person I've ever come across in radio. His loyalty and dedication to making B101 sound good with the increasingly limited resources was remarkable. Sadly, going the extra mile didn't matter much to the unappreciative bastards at Clear Channel. Knowing what I know about Greater Media, his contributions will be much more valued there.

Best of luck, Tom. B101, the station I was once so proud to be a part of is officially dead (save TC).

You know what I see happening there? Not that there are that many left anyway but more and more people are either going to leave on their own or be let go. This new PD seems to me to be a grandstander trying to make a name for himself quickly. You'll see a lot of turmoil and while it's going on every time he comes up with a promotion you'll see it on All Access so he can get his name out there. Then something will happen and he'll be gone. I doubt that he's planning on a long term stay anyway but it will be shorter than he's planning on and after the dust settles in 18 months or so both B101 and WSNE will be faced with major damage control. The ex-Boston people there have managed to get back to Boston. Tom is doing the right thing. The morning people left at B101 and WSNE need to follow suit.

Chris Duggan programmed WLTO, Lexington, KY 2004-2005, WWBX, Bangor, ME 2005-2006, and 98Q, Danbury, CT 2006 to 2008. You're probably talking a 2 year stay at best even under ideal conditions. Let's face it. Whether it's programming or air talent the days of settling into a job for life are gone. If you haven't been there for years already it won't happen to you in the future. As far as TSJ's efforts I think you'll find the over 40 bunch in radio are the ones with the work ethic who feel regardless of who they work for or what the conditions are, they do the best job they can do because that's their mindset and because they actually do enjoy it and take pride. It's no wonder there's so much disillusionment in radio when people realize management could care less about the work ethic.
