In giving Mignon Clyburn the job of interim chairman, Obama is basically throwing a bone to women and minorities. Now that he is in his second term and no longer campaigning, there is no real need for Obama to appease any special interest group--and he won't. I think with Ms. Rosenworcel's "fairness to all stakeholders" policy Obama saw weakness. Wheeler won't be interested in fairness but in carrying out his old buddy's wishes which is to bulldoze broadcast TV and make way for a broadband-only (or possibly a broadband/MVPD-only) world.

The key sticking point, and its a clever one, is getting the nomination past Sen. Rockefeller, who has openly endorsed Rosenworcel, and his committee. This could derail the appointment. Plus, many representatives on Capitol Hill have shown great concern for the future of OTA TV, including LPTV and translators, and I'm sure we'll see some kind of legislation introduced that will offer more protection for the service. 2014 will be an interesting year (for that matter so will the latter half of '13).

And if you look at this article in Bloomberg it states that Tom Wheeler secured $500,000. in campaign contributions for Obama's re-election. You mean, all it took was 500K and I could have been nominated for the post of FCC Chairman? What a bargain, relatively speaking.

Once there is no more broadcasting, and no more Ham Radio, and only subscribers of the two or three major broadband providers can communicate at all, it will be so much easier to control the populace.

That "Internet Kill-Switch" is looking more and more ominous.

That's two better than the options Americans had for landlines for the better part of a century.

The voices against consolidated media are often those that I'd imagine "willdav" considers to be socialists.

You can't have it both ways. Either you support regulating the communications market or you accept the effects of not regulating it.

As for 90.1 Austin, it's an unlicensed broadcaster and should be shut down regardless of its content.

Not true. I am also against consolidated media. Did you thoroughly read my post? Yes the communications market should be regulated, but to a certain extent. The FCC should do more to allow competition, and not hinder it. It is doubtful that Wheeler will make it his goal. Even if 90.1 is shut down, we can still listen to it online and/or those shows. However, I am worried that Wheeler will tax, cap, and regulate the internet.
