TomatoVine.com: London In For Darian

Has anyone else noticed that TomatoVine.com -- a broadband phone service based in San Mateo -- has replaced Darian O'Toole as their spokesperson on national advertising?

The new voice: John London.

The commercials are heard on broadcast stations across the country, plus Sirius and XM satellite.

So, I found it interesting! Good, bad or indifferent it's news relating to something related to Bay Area radio.

DJ,

That was a National Ad? It sounded kinda "local" quality to me. The reason
they replaced her (thats why I think it's only locally produced) is most contracts, P.Service, Union etc, call for out of shift voice work to be replaced within a few weeks of a staff persons departure. In some cases it
runs till the severance pay expires, or the personal service contract allows.
In this case, I think the reason may have been 2 fold, #1 the "No longer employed by the station Issue" and #2 the "Reason" she was dismised issue. The sad but true fact is Advertisers don't want certain "things" tied to their product...say a compromised performance for instance. I think if Tomato Can runs ads like I've heard, they had better get an agency soon. Additionaly, if Tomato Can really wanted Darian, They could hire her as a freelance voice to do their spots, and record them at a studio...Then all they need to do is place the Produced Spots on Any station they want.

The spots may have had a "local" sound to them, but they have been running on Howard Stern's show on Sirius (which is not "local"), as well as KNX/Los Angeles, WJFK/Washington, D.C., and WCBS/New York.

Remember: TomatoVine.com is headquartered in San Mateo. A hard-working local CBS sales rep may have worked with them on an ad buy, then suggested Darian (then London) to voice the spots, which they expanded out to other CBS stations across the country. From there, they may have increased their ad budget and gone on to XM and Sirius.

So Darian worked at FreeFM 106.9. She gets dismissed, and John London — who still works at FreeFM 106.9 — takes over the gig. The national spots were re-recorded last week with London on them.

A national ad in which a local guy gets to say "Hi, this is John London for TomatoVine.com" is still a nice gig. And they advertise like crazy across the country.

FREE-FM isn't even on the charts. What a joke!
