Tonight Show to Late Night nightly transition "thin green line"

(Note: Why is Leno and Letterman a repeat suddenly tonight? Shouldn't there be a full week of new shows? -G.)

But on to my real subject,
Has anyone noticed that between the final tag of the Tonight Show and the first roll of the drumb to Late Night, theres about a second or two of black. What I noticed is, in that second or two of back, there is a thin lime geen line that flashes half way down, attached to the right of the screen. It's ALWAYS there, every night. At first, I didn't think much of it, until I realized that it's like this every time.

Does anyone know what this "Green Line" is for? Does it serve a purpose? Or is it just some kind of unavoidable sync glitch when they switch video sources in NY?

Leno was a last min. switch. No clue why.

Here's the deal.. Leno is uplinked out of Burbank. Conan (and the rest of NBC) are uplinked from NYC (except if there is bad weather in NYC, in which case they can divert to Burbank). The couple of seconds of black and the "green line" you see is the handover between the two NBC master control centers.

Totally unrelated to TV signals....last night Conan made a comment after his usual rambunctious and off-the-wall entrance and welcome that maybe it was time to calm down...then he said no it wasn't, but "maybe in a few years". I took that as a slight hint towards his eventual takeover.

It doesn't and it does. Jay and Conan were both mentioned in the post, and I just happened to make that observation last night while watching Conan.

It should have been a new thread. We have enough problems with threads going off in different directions -- especially when the subject line doesn't get changed -- without my having to get multiple e-mails from Garrett every time it happens on a legitimate question he asks.

We call it "thread hijacking" and it is very much frowned upon at Radio-Info.<P ID="signature">______________
