Tonight "The Spa" Is Fighting Back the KFNN Power Grab

Looks like a 1510 station may finally be fighting back against KFNN's infamous illegal power grab. Right now, it appears that KSPA out of "beautiful" Ontario, CA is running on daytime power with 10,000 watts as it is owning the 1510 dial right now, at least out here in the East Valley. Driving over to Tempe tonight, it was all KSPA all the time with no sign of KFNN. There's no way that's only 1,000 watts coming from KSPA!

Typically, when KFNN finally decides to power down to their lousy 100 watts, Mile High Sports 1510 out of Denver, CO overtakes the frequency with a faint hint of KFNN in the background (if you're lucky). Not tonight! KSPA is blasting in and owning the frequency with their singers and songwriters martini music. The music reminds me a lot of the short-lived "Lounge Sound" on KPHX with the "Martini in the Morning." Personally, I wouldn't mind if KSPA kept blasting in night after night. It's a lot better than hearing all money news all the time on KFNN!

Thank you KSPA! Way to fight fire with fire! ;D

Uh oh, just heard a promo on KSPA after their legal ID at 9:00 P.M. stating that, "Beginning March 1st, the Spa becomes Southern California's Financial News Station." Now it's becoming abundantly clear, KSPA is trying to emulate KFNN in all ways possible: Boring programming and a blatant disregard for FCC rules! ::)

There seems to be a pattern of this disregard growing out there. Has the FCC given up on enforcement? Or do they just spend all their time on 1 watt FM pirates?

No...just approving more low power FM stations so the band can become just as cluttered as Ancient Modulation!

KSPA has an application to move their COL to Chino and bump up da pow-pow-power to 50kw day, 45kw CH and 6kw at night!
Mehbee their app has been approved and what you heard was the new and improved 15~Ten from beautiful Chino, CA. Looking at their new nighttime pattern (6kw), it's rather unlikely they could get that signal anywhere close to Phoenix. But then again, illegal power grabbers are all over the Valley and Sheriff Joe's dep-uh-teez are mobilizing!

KFNN makes money in spite of boring programs and their blatant disregard for powering down at sunset in December and January. Ratings? They don't need no stinkin' ratings or listeners with PPMs.

I think what you're doing Doc is giving our favorite poster, KDM 7000, a run for his money. All you have to do now is start a new topic, respond to yourself six times and when nobody else says anything for a few months, quote yourself and prove to everybody how right you were to begin with. You should do that with the Lumberyard thread! ;D

This might be what it was. I kind of feel like, though, that the power was a lot more than 6,000 watts. That station was blasting in here last night. Even this morning, before KFNN illegally powered up early around 7:00 A.M., KSPA sounded like a local at times. Even after KFNN signed on early, you could still hear KSPA breaking through the background. It'll be interesting to see if KSPA is present tonight at all.

With this newly increased interference from KSPA, there's no way that KFNN can be heard in their city of license (Mesa). Not like they were able to do that to begin with! ::)

Is it any wonder why the Phoenix board is the greatest in all of Radio-Info?

Agreed! No other city board has such passionate radio fans, it's very own Doctor and Nurse, BBQ's planned and canceled by radio personalities, get togethers at Bill Johnson's Big Apple or Ted's Hot Dogs, and, above all else, a 111 page discussion on a small, little day-time only AM oldies station that broadcasts out of a Lumberyard in Scottsdale. There really is no better board on Radio-Info. The original and still the best! ;D

It's greater than anything else in the world!

....with the possible exception of Nurse Jeff in a Hoody-Footie pajama on Valentine's Day

KSPA has not yet been granted it's app. The app. is "MX'd" with a couple for a 1500 in Culver City.

Culver City? Isn't that the "never goin' happen" Royce International application for what was once KROQ-AM, Burbank? Plenty of bizarre stories and photos of what was built in the Verdugo hills to get that signal to work. YIKES!

This needs a "Like" button.

Actually there are 2 app.'s for the 1500. Saul Levine who owns the 1260 and 105.1 is up against Royce. I think we can count Royce out on this one as he had 26 years to build it when he had a CP on it, so the real contest is between Art at 1510 to go 50kw and Saul for the 1500.
