[/quote....Uh, Holland..."sometimes" compensated for their appearences works much better in an IRS audit....

"FREQUENTLY," not "always" compensated...

Did you guys get paid for your telethon appearances?

Oh no.
The Pro Personalities always did charity-related stuff, and plenty of it, gratis.
Although I'll admit that pressing-the-flesh for-a-good-cause was good exposure.
But that was "effect." The cause was "cause."

Good evening from Washington,

Wing Thing, Meeting Street Telethon, First Night, MDA telethon, various walks or fundraisers...all for nothing and proud of it!

One less master practitioner of a dying art.

RIP George Michael, who did nights on WABC when I did nights on WPRO, in both stations' mid/late-70s Top 40 heyday.

Later, in the 80s, he-and-I crossed paths, in Washington, when he was MISTER Sports at NBC4 there, and seen here, hosting The Sports Machine.

But in the early 70s, guys-who-did-what-I-did in Triple-A markets like Providence would hear airchecks of him on the-late-great WFIL/Philadelphia, and execute our shows tighter-and-brighter as-a-result.

Later, when Cousin Brucie crossed the street to WNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNBC, George took over for him at night on WABC, and radio like this is what guys-like-me would try to emulate: http://www.musicradio77.com/images/george6-18-79.mp3

Listen to how incredibly happy he sounds when he says "WABC."
Note: "DOUBLE-YOU," not "DUBBA-YEW."

Tributes aplenty on the NY and Philly and DC boards.
