Only one woman group in that list at #37. Shows like Rockstar Supernova bring in women singers (would never choose them) but in reality how many women rock singers do you ever hear on HJY? Hardly any. I think when Bill Weston was PD he played more women artists. He gave them a chance but now Evanescence is all you hear.

HJY plays The Donnas.Other than that is Courtney Love still releasing anything? They would probably play her.

I think that the HJY Rock 40 was the actual Billboard Active Rock chart for that week. In July of 1997, it was about half a year after they lost the Z Rock 50, so then MD "Shockin'" Sharon Shaffino did a top 40 countdown for about a year or two. The problem was, HJY was never quite an active rock station (I would put them at a middle-of-the-road album or mainstream rock), so HJY never actually played some of the cuts on this countdown in regular rotation, especially the songs toward the bottom of the chart.

In addition, in the 90s, HJY did play their fair share of female artists--more than what this top 40 chart suggests. Artists like Alanis Morrisette, Melissa Etheridge, Susan Tedeschi, Sheryl Crow, and even Meredith Brooks got airplay on HJY. They even helped to promote up-and-coming female artists of the time like Sass Jordan ("High Road Easy") and Shannon Curfman ("True Friends," "Playing With Fire.")

And I don't think I've heard the Donnas or Hole on HJY in about 3 or 4 years. They're not relevant these days, anyway.
