As Rod Stewart sung “Tonight’s The Night”, but it’s not going to be alright! I’ve temporarily return to this and I’m going to post this to everyone. DON’T BE A NON RESPECTFUL AM BROADCASTER TONIGHT! Run your legal power for High School Football Tonight.
If some folks call in to your station, complaining that they can’t hear you, tell them you are following the law, and kindly suggest to buy themselves a decent radio. Tell the Radio Shack is a good place to start. If they internet access, direct them to the C.C. Crane site as well. Mostly likely, it’s their cheap radio they bought at Dollar General Store, Family Dollar, Freds, Wal-Mart, etc. These stores sell boom boxes that the cheap, overseas, manufacture put $30.00 in the FM side and 5 bucks on the AM side just to satisfy the FCC.
With the internet now the way it is, there is no excuse to not stream you ballgames over the internet if your AM station has very low “Flea Power” at night. If your station doesn’t have a website, I suggest you get one. You don’t have to stream 24/7, just your ballgames if that’s all you wish, then the whole world can hear you legally!
Discount stores are NOT the place to buy a good, “portable” radio. Delco radios in GM cars for the most part are good in the newer cars, due to the bandwidth is narrowed down to 4.5 to 5 Khz. Ford car radios are o.k. as well, but beware, if your engine is running, you’ll get motor noise, so you have to park the car and shut off the engine to get the noise out of the AM Radio.
Someday, we hope the FCC we get off their tails in the Media Bureau and get FM Translators for all Class C and D AM stations. I’ve heard rumors when analog channels 5 & 6 are gone when TV is forced all digital, this will free up frequencies for the FM Band. I was told the FCC will assign an FM Channel to each active AM station for a translator. This may solve some of out problems with the AM Band, if this is true.
Just my 2 Cents worth.
