Tony Bruno to syndicate himself?

With WPEN-AM readying some changes in Philadelphia (a rebranding as "ESPN 950" effective 4.1.08) it would be prudent for them to reach a deal with him in a market where he has done well in.

Tony has returned to the airwaves for his regular segment on KNBR in San Francisco. He appears every day at 10 a.m. PT. The KNBR website has archives of the week's shows as well as a listen live option.

My sources tell me he is about to announce his new gig at KLAA 830Am based in Anaheim from Angels Stadium. It's owned by Arte Moreno and Bruno will do 9am to noon with hopes of syndicating it nationally soon and taking on Jim Rome head to head.

We'll see how this plays out.....KLAA was supposed to drop the general talk format for all sports and that hasn't happend 100% yet and how's Bruno going to get affiliates against Rome who is basically on all Fox Sports stations. Theres already local sports talk on stations, ESPN, SNR and Dan Patrick (as well as Fox Sports for the non-Clear Channel/non-Rome carrying FSR affiliates).

The daily syndicated sports talk radio market is getting as crowded as the daily general talk radio market.

It's the only shot he has. Mid Mornings are way too crowded. With Patrick, Cowherd, FSR. Any Non full time ESPN stations might get tired of Tirico (or fall asleep) and he may get 2 hours in a few places. He'll get an L.A. affiliate & he'll get on KNBR 1050 b/c they love him there. Maybe he gets on in Philly somewhere initially. Tampa was a market he worked in as well & is well liked. Besides, he can do what Patrick did at first. Which, is tape delay. I agree it's an uphill battle, but it's the only shot he has. He seems to have burned all the other bridges. I wish him well. I always thought Tony was great talent

If Tony Bruno were to go national from noon to three Eastern, he needs to be marketed as "Sportstalk for Adults"
or something similar. Rome's show is punky and juvenile. There needs to be an alternative, but Mike Tirico is not
it, nor are his co-/substitute hosts. Unfortunately, ESPN affiliates need to clear a certain amount of time for network programming, and Rome's affiliates are not going anywhere so is there really a market for another syndicated daytime sportstalker?
