Tony Bruno

Yet another contract issue, eh? I like Bruno's program a lot, but he sure seems to have these contract issues every time it's up for renewal. FSR. SNR. Who's next? As cool of a guy as he is on the air, it sure seems like he's the opposite in real life. I have to believe that he's just about worn out his welcome in the industry- talent or no talent- and unless he works something out with SNR, we may have heard the last of him.

That sucks. Well, lets hope his replacement isn't some shmuck like Van Earl Wright. ;)

I'll bet he goes back to Philly to do some local show there.

Hey Mr East Bay.

FSR wanted Bruno to take a huge pay check due to Clear Channel corporate cutbacks and he told them to stick it.

SNR obviously is about to go under and apparantly didn't even make him an offer.

How is that a problem with him?

Sounds like this guy has integrity and just doesn't work for a paycheck like most no talent hacks who pray for a job anywhere.

Actually, I remember reading that he was offered a 20% raise at FSR and he wanted a 50% rasie. That thing lasted for months going back forth on the show as he talked about it & on his site. Now, SNR that's a nickel & dime operation so nothing surprises me there.

May Jim DeCastro at "The Content Factory" in Chicago will come up with a plan to launch Bruno in syndication as did Dan Patrick from the same firm.

Patrick's done ok with the deal.

Maybe lightning will strike twice.

Tony's a bit expensive for a single-market in this economy with cut-backs and all. A network would be his best bet.

I had the exact same thought.

I could easily see a schedule of either (all times eastern):

* Tony Bruno (6-9 AM), followed by Dan Patrick (9-12 AM); or

* Dan Patrick (9-12 AM), followed by Tony Bruno (12 - 3 PM)

I see him going to Sirius, XM, or a local sports station. No where else for him go as far as network sports radio.

Bruno to Content Factory

IMO... I think that 80 to 90% of the success that Patrick has had in finding affiliates is due to Premiere. Wonder if they would get the same corporate support for Tony Bruno.

Patrick's with "The Content Factory" in Chicago. He and the owner are great friends and since leaving ESPN, Patrick's racked up some heavyweights.

It would be perfect for Bruno ... either before Patrick (who is live at 9a Eastern 6a Pacific) or right after Patrick. A 6a start for Bruno in the East wouldn't be so good for west coast clearances, unless delayed.

I think he's had enough of the FSR/Clear Channel life and ESPN, as well.

I think Bruno likes being in La and wouldn't want to wake up at 3 a.m. Would Internet radio be an option for him?

Yes... Content Factory owns Dan... BUT (and this is a huge BUT...)
He is Syndicated through Premiere... makes a huge difference in my opinion

That's absolutely correct. Which means no way that happens.

Bruno has talent for sure and I'm sure he has integrity as well, but one thing I remember is him 'negotiating' on the air in his final months at FSR- especially when things weren't going his way. We could debate whether he should have gotten paid what he was asking for all day long, but based on how he sounded on the air and what ultimately happened, he seems like he's a handful to deal with business-wise.

I have to agree that the parting of the ways with SNR is likely because they simply couldn't afford him. A raise would certainly have been out of the question.

Pretty ironic, considering that his show was the only one that anyone listened to on SNR. Do they have other programs too?

My guess is that Tony Bruno is done as a national sportstalk personality. He has worked for all three networks and has never
seemed to be satisfied with his situation. How many stations picked up his show when he went to SNR? Do you really think he
could get the affiliates that Dan Patrick has acquired? I strongly doubt it. The only chance a Tony Bruno Show has to make it
in syndication would be at night, and I'm sure that he feels that he's too important for nights.
The question you people should be asking: When did Tony Bruno "jump the shark"?
