Tony Sandoval - KissFM

Here's a link to a nice article in today's Chronicle Datebook ("Pink") about the Kiss "Old School Fiesta"with tie-ins to the Latin sound, Tony Sandoval's Sunday Oldies show, the beginnings of Oldies radio (1957!), Art Laboe and the famous El Monte Legion Stadium shows in the 1960s. Very interesting, I think, and some good publicity for Sandoval, who is a very good disc jockey - IMHO.

He's ok....smooth....but...he's NOT my "homey."

2 more things that bug me: The guy at my local Togos that calls me and everyone else, "bro," and, Tony Sandoval calling himself, "your homey, Tony Sandoval."

I suppose that is the audience they want...homeys. Like the music and the station, Tony is good....but flush the homey bit!

"He's ok....smooth....but...he's NOT my "homey."

I hadn't noticed that - I'll listen more carefully. I guess even "smooth" DJs can develop verbal catch phrases and habits that get on our nerves. I have 2 co-workers - one says "Quite frankly..." before every third sentence even when he isn't being frank, and the other says "Guess what?" before every third sentence. Well, guess what? Quite frankly, it irriates the s__t out of me.

I remember being bugged as a kid when a slick LA TV car dealer always introduced himself as "Me? I'm Chick Lambert." ..like "Me?" was his first name.

I hope I don't do that kind of thing...though I probably do.
