Tony Tolliver

One of the true gentlemen in the business, Tony Tolliver, is on the beach.

I met Tony 20 years ago, when he was picking the tunes on WEBN. Tony was the heart and soul of the Fox. It's a very small neighborhood that holds people with his "Selector" skills. Above and beyond his abilities, you won't find a nicer guy. Quiet, unassuming, professional, funny, honest (and all that other Boy Scout crap) and there when you need him, whether it's a plane crash or something personal.

A lot of Cincinnati is going to say, "Tony Tolliver...hmm. I think I've heard of him." They won't realize that for so many years, what they loved about their favorite station was Tony's craftsmanship in balancing the music. Your iPod may have your favorite tunes, but Tony could arrange them on the air in a way no iPod can. In a day when management is cutting so severely what goes BETWEEN the songs, it's a shame they cut the guy responsible for making what's left palatable, if not tasty.

Tony, the next tequila is to you. Find life with us outside of the wire...blue skies, sunshine, and the warmth of people who value your work. You've thanklessly slaved over a couple of hot turntables long enough without the love we used to feel. +

Well said, Arbitorn. My years in the hallowed halls of Mt Adams, Tony would always have time for a chat. I raise my (shot) glass to TT.

Brilliant programmer, seamless jock, damn fine fellow. Yep, I agree with you guys. Working with Tony was nothing short of a hoot!

Such a loss! What a great guy. I don't think you'll find anybody who has anything but praise for Tony, and his work. He just always "got it done". No complaining or arguing or ego. Just quiet professionalism - now walking out the door. They lose! We ALL lose.

are you kidding me? Great guy? YES! one of the best-- Brilliant Programmer---na, baby, na. Thin resume, not a strategist. VERY sorry to see him go-- Tony could have helped the inbred thinking at the CUMless plant-- but please-- this guy was a lineman-- not a programmer.

Good luck Tony, but it's time to get trained in a new field

Um, anti-em, I hope you meant CUMEless. What you wrote has a whole different meaning. ;D

Anti-em: As one of my old bosses used to say, "F%#* you, strong letter to follow." And I say that in only the friendliest way, as he was one of my favorite bosses, and I can never resist the opportunity to use it.

I've known Tony since he was a research staffer at WSAI in 1977. He is a great guy and a super music programmer who, if he had not wanted to stay here in Cincinnati, could have built a national reputation for himself.

But he was never a jock's jock, and Cumulus wants people that can carry multiple baskets of stuff, meaning on-air, remotes, promotions and a full plate of management responsibilities. That's a "fact of reality" (as Michael Savage would say). Specialists who represent perfection in one area have pretty much been downsized out of the business. And that's the industry's loss and severe miscalculation, IMHO.

Someone ought to consider bringing Tony on as a music programming strategist for all of their classic hits/rock stations. They could use him. Desperately.

Tony, free Mountain Dew for everybody! (That's an inside reference from WSAI.)

That's a shame! I got to know Tony when I worked at WEBN a few years ago. A truly genuine happy go lucky man. I always enjoy chatting with him. He is a bright light.

Cary--RELAX-- I never questioned that he is a good guy---- Worked with him--AGREE. But he is a dime-a-dozen Selector jockey. Not a strategist, not an air personality but a good off air MD-- those days are gone-- I agree it is sad, but please-- let us not make him larger in death than he was in life (radio life anyway)
