Too early to start bagging on 106.9? I guess I will start

My thoughts after listening off and on this week.

The Doghouse is out of its element. But, you can tell they are just trying to behave. They are not well-rounded enough to go after the type of listener KIFR seems to be going after. They need music and stunts to have anything close to a listenable show. I thought 106.9 had reverted back to Family Radio at one point this morning with all their basic religous talk.

But, I think we all know what type of show Corolla is going to have. Very Sternish. Pop culture, fart jokes (even used in his promo), male oriented celebs, etc.

With that said, I think John London might do well as a bookend with Corolla. All 3 hosts on his show (Cruz & Townsend with London) know their roles, very male oriented, bits, sports, and all know the Bay Area. The only problem is that London is someone that does not seem to handle success very well. Also, what is up with the "Best of's" from 2-3 already. I realize that Penn (or is it Teller) is taking the 2-3 in January, but doing an extra hour for 8 weeks (hey, I'll even give them the non-book weeks off) seems like not too much trouble for a group that was unemployed a week ago.

I don't see Darian O'Toole lasting long. Now, I was never a fan of hers, but I don't remember her being as "unbright" as she is now. And, I am not talking about her radio personna, she is sounding just plain dumb. I found it really funny when the older black man named Gavin from SF called in and she thought it was Gavin Newsome for most of the phone call. And, with the male oriented shows around her, she has come up with some sorry topics to keep men listening. Domestic abuse? violence in teens? cars for women? Am I watching Oprah? The fact that this radio voice claims to like having sex is not going to be enough to keep the target demo. I really think her show needs another strong, male voice in there (not just her producer who reminds me of when Rosie O'Donnell used to go to her band leader.)
Edited by mrradioguy99 on 10/28/05 08:33 PM.

Gotta say I agree with a lot of what you've written here. The Doghouse is clearly not going to work there. And I don't think they were really intended to...I think it's a tryout that may not work out.

The Jesus talk has gotta go...Not that you can't talk about it, but it's soooooo not what the station is about.

Darian's definitely off her game. But she needs someone to bounce off of or she sounds like (BLEEP). And a little too syrupy at this point, too...And was I the only one not-at-all glad to learn that she can't pee at someone else's house after sex. Did NOT need to know that.

I'll give them the 2 to 3 hour...Doing a talk show is tough enough at 4 hrs... Do you know anyone who does a five hour talk show? Plus, they are brand new... Who's it gonna hurt? January isn't that far away...It'll do for now.

Also...Anyone else catch London's visceration of Bob Agnew? Or JV & Elvis ripping Michael Martin and Clear Channel? Pretty entertaining if you're in the biz, but also massive cheap shots no matter whose side you're on.

John Rothman does a five hour show from 1AM-6AM every Sunday on KGO.

I missed your point. What does John Rothman have to do with 106.9 FreeFM?

I was asking about 5 hour talk shows (they're too long)...He pointed out some weekend part timer...I'm talking someone doing a show five days a week. And don't just point out 1, point out three. NO music shows.

Okay, since I kind of started this.

I'm willing to give you 5 hours is tough. My point really was, why the "Best of" from 2-3? It just happened the day before.

Untill Penn starts, what about an hour of Leykis? His shows are evergreen and it could even be something from a year ago since each of his hours is pretty much the same.

I'm sure Don & Mike would let someone roll an hour of best of from them so they could claim a clear in the #4 market.

Hell, what about an hour of Rover? I have no idea who Rover is, but Infinity seems to like him if he is replacing Stern in Chicago. If Corolla does not work out for some reason, why not have some sort of buzz about that guy?

My original point, although stated poorly, was replaying an hour of a show from just the day before or even a week before is just weak.
