Too much drama ?

The Staunton News Leader newspaer is planning to outsource its printing operations to the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record. I was reading about this on DCRTV. Of course somebody on the boards made it seem this story was so chock full of drama such as the "real" reason why the Harrisonburg paper doesn't publish on Sundays.

Last year Winchester's AM 1400 WINC dropped their live morning show quite suddenly. According to some messages on DCRTV as I recall, some believed it could had been "some kind of plot". ???

Fredericksburg's WBQB-FM B101.5...when their long time morning team of Baxter & Bonnie got canned, is it true that the police were called to WBQB? My brother claims he read this on another forum.

Local politics, drama and school competition is why the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg TV markets are seperate. True?

The Tidewater/Hampton Roads TV market...sometimes I check out the Virginian Pilot online and their forums. From reading the messages on that site over the years it sure seems to be a lot of drama there too. WTKR vs. the city of Suffolk, old timers who don't like WAVY & WVEC using choppers for their news, WTKR airing their news for a few nites on WSKY ( could WSKY end up being the local CBS affiliate? )..blah blah blah. Heck I can remember when Neilsen upgraded that market to "overnights" ( metered ) some years back, I seem to remember a lot of people at the time were totally against this.

Is it just me but does it seem there is quite a bit of drama attached to Virginia media?

Or is it the work of a few people who have so little to do with their own lives that they "create" the drama?

For WSKY they aired the local news for WTKR (CBS, NewsChannel 3) for NCAA was taking the 11pm slot. Which I think was a great idea. For those people who do not like basketball but like NewsChannel 3 News at 11, they still got the news at 11 and not midnight or later.

As for Harrisonburg and Cville, stations cannot get over the mountain range. That is the main reason for the different markets. But driving time is 1hr from each other. Who in Hburg wants to hear about CVille and Vise Versa. Does a UVA student really care about something on JMU's campus...probaly not.

For the rest of that IDK

WVIR at least definitely makes it over the mountains. There are plenty of folks in the valley who watch WVIR-DT. And WVPT has an on-channel booster in Charlottesville.

I can't speak for the Newsplex stations though. I don't know if they do or not.

The Newsplex does not make it over (Cable not sure if they carried over there either?)...only NBC 29...and really one radio station 99.7 WCYK make it over the mountain

Depending on what part of town we are talking about..Charlottesville's 97.5 "3WV"..the southern part of Harrisonburg they come in quite well. However on the northside of Harrisonburg..not as good and that is mainly due to Martinsburg, West Virginia's WLTF-FM. Now whenever WLTF goes off the air ( and for a time some years back that seemed to have had happen at least once a week )...then 3WV can reach well into Pennsylvania.

The "drama" part...I believe a LOT of that is due to the late Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson...though indirectly. For many years it seemed that whenever a station in the Norfolk market would pre-empt a TV show..well here comes the rumors about Pat making a phone call and demanding that a local station NOT to air a show he objected too. I never did bought that one..besides Robertson has/had his own TV empire..why would he care about WVEC or any other station in that market?

It was more/less dittos with the Lynchburg/Roanoke radio/TV market too..like this rumor that people still mention to this day ".....back in the 70s and 80s all of the Roanoke and Lynchburg radio stations like K-92 and WROV had to send to Jerry Falwell their playlists so that Jerry would give them his blessing before that tune would get played on the air..." Jerry Falwell listening to K-92? About the same odds as Pat Robertson listening to Z104 or even the old WGH in "old Virginia"..

We are talking next to zero here.
