Too much Hype about Ellen's Move

I'm not sure if you've been watching or following the news, but they had a whole rolling rally today in Boston for Ellen. It started at Federal Court, and ended at Quincy Market. She even did an interview with Mayor Manino about this big move from 9am to 4pm. They say that people were just as excited about this as they were for the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup. Is it really THAT big of a deal that she's moving?

And Vanna White was in the Boston area for the lottery's new $5 scratch ticket. Outside of their website, I never would've known! :p

It just goes to show you how much people are so starved for entertainment! I mean who really gives a you know what about Ellen moving to 4PM on channel 5? I like channel 5 but this was certainly a totally ridiculous stunt that incredibly brought out a ton of people to be part of it. And they made a HUGE deal about during the 5 and 6PM newscasts... just unbelievable hype to try not to lose too much ratings when Oprah finally departs. Just shameless self promoting!

Another thing I wanted to point out about WCVB is that it seems like they always get the good syndicated daytime programming. That could be why Regis & Kelly is moving from WHDH. It seems like 'HDH always gets the crappy syndicated programming. It's beyond my comprehension why they would replace R&K with a 9am newscast. Does any other station in the COUNTRY do this? Do they delay the 3rd hour of the Today show for something besides R&K? And check out the afternoon lineup. They have the Doctors (which I think is somewhat popular), and 2 episodes of Family Feud. I think in most markets, Family Feud is on one of the minor networks. However, there are 2 very popular syndicated shows that I don't think WCVB plans on picking up. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! I know they have Inside Edition at 7 pm, which seems to be going downhill. How well is that show doing in ratings? Do you think that WCVB could eventually pick up those 2 game shows?

Doesn't WMUR carry a lot of WCVB's programming? I guess that means Ellen has to travel to New Hampshire now!

I didn't want to start a new thread for this and since it pertains to the Ellen move on WCVB that it would be okay. Anyways using zap2it I was able to figure out how many hours of news WHDH will run every week once the new newscast from 9 to 10 begins August 22nd. 52 hours 25 minutes (My figure includes 7 News at 10 on CW56.) I also decided to do it for WBZ, WCVB and FOX25. FOX25 airs the 2nd most amount of news with 42 hours 30 minutes but I guess any station that airs a morning newscast from 4:30-10 would air a lot of news each week. WBZ is third with 37 hours 5 minutes (includes WBZ News on TV38). Last is WCVB with 34 hours 35 minutes. Does anyone know which channel gets the best ratings news wise? I'm guessing probably a ratings battle between WBZ and WHDH.

Believe it or not, the last time I checked, WCVB had the number 1 rated newscast.
Wow I never would've thought that. I guess it goes to show that a station doesn't need to air the news all the time for people to tune in. Do you think anyone actually sits down and watches 7 news nightly from 4pm to 6:30pm or FOX 25 News 4:30am to 10am daily?
