Too much sports for O-town?

Let me see here. We have at least 3 sports radio stations, yet nothing on FM. Even Tampa has a new powerhouse on 98.7. Up in Jax they are simulcasting their good AM stations to FM now.

With so much clutter on the Orlando FM dial, you would think someone would finally put a high quality, good signal FM Sports on here.

I don't get it, what am I missing here??? ???

What is missing is revenue. The two long term existing sports stations can barely draw a 1 share combined, so what FM signal are you going to waste on that? Orlando just now got news talk on FM while most major cities have had that for a few years at this point.

The money is what is missing.

I wouldn't consider the new 98.7 in the Bay as a powerhouse....its signal is only half of the major players' signals, and I figure it to suffer interference during decent tropo---I figure it has to protect 98.5 to the north and the other more powerful 98.7 along the Treasure Coast. I'm a DXer and i think from Broward County I only heard 98.7 (as Play 98.7) once, compared to all the 99.5 & 104.7 loggings. There's also a 98.7 in Key West that might cause problems as well. Tampa's 98.7 has only been on the air about 10 years or so.

That being said, sports on FM in the major cities is increasing (we all know that from these boards), and it'll be only a matter of time when news/talk & sports on FM will be the rule, and not the exception.
