TOOTING WBAP'S HORN FOR EXCELLENT EXPLOSION COVERAGE

I don't know how the "other" station handled it, but Mark Davis dropped right into wall-to-wall coverage of the Downtown Dallas explosion today right after it happened, using Channel 8's live audio briefly until the WBAP news staff could get over to Dallas. Great on-the-scene reports and thorough coverage. Excellent job, guys!! (And I'm not just saying that.)

WBAP seems to be doing a great job. I didn't have much of a chance to listen to KRLD, but around 10:30am - KLIF was airing Glen Beck.

Mike, I'd also have to add that you've done a great job with the extended traffic reports this morning!

Thanks very much! And just when I thought it'd be another sit-on-my-butt-and-surf-the-internet kinda morning...HA!

HEY GYXZYP?: WBAP had great coverage and Mike Shannon was superb.!! Give the man a raise!

Well KPLEX.....not sure if you meant me or not....since as usual....your information is incorrect....but I don't work for or with Mike Shannon OR WBAP.....thought we had discussed that.

What I'm surprised by....is that you neither took Mike to task as being a WBAP lover (or worker) or found a way to rip a station you either couldn't work at....or used to work at....so now you are all bitter.

I didn't hear any of the stuff on radio....but thought Channel 11 actually did the best of anyone on TV. Channel 5 went about 30 minutes without ANY pictures at all. Thought they dropped the ball.

Sheesh well make up your mind your cynicism is drowning you. Actually Channel 8 did a great job and had better footage ,etc. John Mcaa kept it simple,NO drama like 4,11, and 5 had.

The word hubris comes to mind.

Yeah that would apply to gpzyzyzf. A very close tight fit. Oh well when school starts up again late next month, I'm sure he'll be busy with detention hall, instead of posting gibberish.

LOL.... :D

I was thinking the same thing.....

Methinks someone self-nominated themselves a
few times for the DFW Radio Hall Of Fame.... ;)

KLIF may have been airing Glen Beck at 10:30, but they were covering it LIVE in the afternoon with "The Wells Report". They also had a reporter there LIVE. Can't say if WBAP or KRLD can boast that. :D

WOW! 6 hours after it happened, KLIF was THERE!

Boy, I hope that wasn't aimed at me. I can assure you that my nominations to the TX Radio Hall of Fame were NOT my idea and NOT of my doing. I would probably turn it down if I ever did get it because I do not deserve it. My webpage is my little contribution to the industry, and that's hardly the same thing as the time and energy and sacrifice one puts into being a real contributor to radio. And yes, if WBAP or any other station deserves a pat on the back for a good job, I'll gladly say it, even if it appears self-promoting. If WBAP did a bad job, sure, I'd probably keep my mouth shut! Hubris is not my style. My compliment was about the fast action and thoroughness of WBAP's reports and reporters; I'm just the traffic vendor and contributed when I was asked to. I hope my little part helped that day, but it was merely one component of the big picture.

AGREED. Some are just looking into the window fogging it up ,wishing hoping, they could work in a studio, but dont have the skills,or patience. It sounded like a "russ" comment, mainly because it wasnt about him.

Let it be made clear as well, Mike Shannon never has sought glory, never self promoted himself ( he only promoted the dfw radio history website..BIG DIFFERENCE). He is a very disciplined, dedicated hard worker, who has made many connections to current and past Media personalities. He is a true and loyal friend to many who have him as a friend. I am fortunate enough to be among them. He was nominated by several to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and one day ,HE WILL GET IN.
He does not have an inflated ego like so many of our colleagues have in this business. he is a down to earth person. He loves radio, and thank God he took the time to research, interview and post the history of DFW radio and TV where many go to for information. The Traffic Pulse folks are lucky to have him, and Ch.8 plus WBAP. No one will ever come close to being like him.

Ditto!

Notice how 'tubetop1" created that account yesterday, then just over 24 hours later TT1 came back online with nothing to say?

I ask you now, whom is craving the attention here? It ain't Mike, for sure!
