#1 KCYY-Y100 (10.0)
#2 KXXM-Mix 96 (9.9)
#3 KJXK- Jack (8.6)
#4 KZEP (8.4)
#5 KQXT-Q101.9 (8.3)

#7 KSMG- Magic 105.3 (6.7)
#8 KONO (6.3)
#9 KISS (6.2)
#10 KTFM (4.3)

I'm sure Landis (KTFM) is all smiles that KTFM is in Top 10 but seriously, Univision isn't encoding and whatelse is there on the FM dial than the Top 9 ahead of KTFM? 106.7-FM Talk :D

I seem to remember a lot of doubters saying that Jack wouldn't work in this market. They've been quiet lately. ;)

I'm a little surprised not to see WOAI in there. Most of its audience is 50+?

Another thing I dont see how KBBT is NOT in there.

What difference does it make if the survey is encoded or not? If a station has the numbers, wouldn't it appear in any top 10? Maybe this hip hop krap nusiance has finally reached its high water mark and will recede into the obscurity of a music library or some 'classic hits' pay radio channel? I don't see any non-majority langauge stations listed either, considering the ethnic content of our local population. Where did these numbers come from, the same non-biased, open minded, I'll hang up on you if you don't give me the answer I want survey takers from last year's election sham?

No. A station that doesn't encode doesn't get picked up by the PPM. Since the PPM doesn't pick up the station, it can't tell anyone is listening to anything.

It does make a difference whether a station is encoded/participating with Arbitron. However, in regards to the The Beat(KBBT), it's my opinion that they wouldn't be rated as high as they were with the diaries. In general, the Hip Hop format is not as popular as it was several years ago. In fact, several stations across the country that were "Hip Hop/R&B" have now tweak their format to either Chr Rhythmic or Top 40. IMO, The Beat here in SA, should evolve to a Chr Rhythmic format. Again, that's my opinion. Though, one thing is certain, San Antonio is a Rhythmic city thanks to the high Latino population.

Also, I've notice BMP has sold two stations within the last two days. One in Waco and the other in Austin. Hopefully, SA is next. It's time for this market to see some changes.

woooooooow. well in my opinion i think top 40 radio has RUINED the hip hop format. here in SA if you look at mix they play a lot of Hip Hop. certainly not their fault, its the pop music format in general.

Mix has been much more successful by adding more Chr Rhythmic tracks versus the Pop Rock crap that KTFM has been trying to shove down our throats. Also, Mix doesn't label itself by playing one specific genre of music so they have the advantage over The Beat.

Times have changed since Hip Hop was the hottest thing on the FM dial. Either The Beat will evolve or they to will follow the fate of our old heritage station-102.7 KTFM.

Btw, was that Ke$ha I heard on The Beat earlier this evening? Hmmmmmmmmmm

I agree, Mix is very versatile. I think KBBT is in a catch 22. They have the choice to stay the same or evolve. And if you remember KTFM evolved every time you turned around when KBBT appeared. 102 point 7 KTFM, wild 102.7, The New 102 Seven, The New 102 Point Seven KTFM, and look what happened to them... the station died. If the beat changed and lets say some other Hip Hop station came along they would be in real trouble. No real Hip Hop fan wants to hear semi pop ish on their Hip Hop station.

Lets say KBBT changed and were going the CHR Rhy route.... Then lets also say some radio company out there brought in a true Hip Hop station with none of the pop music. Who do you think people are going to choose? I think if that were to happen KBBT would be in a similar situation they put KTFM in. My opinion.

Even if another Hip Hop station were to pop up, it wouldn't make a difference. Overall Hip Hop sales are way down from several years ago and in most markets, PPM's do not support the format. Btw, check out the Sac board....another Hip Hop station is about to flip to Top 40/Chr Rhythmic. The all Hip Hop formats seemed to be going bye bye.

What SA/Austin radio needs is a good Rhythmic/Pop station. After spending time in San Francisco, I always listened to Clear Channel owned Wild 94.9, which is a CHR Rhythmic and CHR Pop mixed radio station. It is number one in the Bay Area targeting 18-34 year olds. Its a great station to listen to and I still listen to it on my blackberry. ;D

As rumored earlier, another all Hip Hop station has tweaked to Chr Rhythmic. 103.5 The Bomb in Sacramento is now tagged as Hot 103.5. Whether The Beat here in SA moves in that direction remains to be heard.

Agreed, I guess we will find out sometime this year. (Maybe)

I guess we now know what direction 98.5 The Beat is heading too.....Top 40 Rhythmic.

Hasn't The Beat always been considered RHY? THey weren't playing all the Pop sounding songs like now but then again this emergence of Pop in that genre wasn't as heavy some 2-4 years ago...

It would be great to see a Urban Station similar to Hot1079 in Atlanta or KMEL in San Fran come up, us Hip Hop fans do want Hip Hop but we want Hip Hop not Hip Pop and bland old music that The Beat has been giving us for 10 years now....

Hopefully some new variety does come up soon
