Here is my favorite 10. Again, in no particular order.

10. Zoe Bonet, KODA
09. Don Sam, KCOH
08. Tom Fontaine, KILT
07. Larry Jones, KHJZ
06. Pam Kelly, KIOL
05. Donna McKenzie, KHJZ
04. Donna Franklin, KHJZ
03. Wash Allen, KCOH
02. Colonel St. James, KKRW
01. Hudson & Harrigan, KILT

Well, I'll risk the slam, but I'd vote to put Walton and Johnson somewhere
in that list, pretty high up for me anyway. There is no other morning show in Houston that constantly leaves me laughing on my to work and at work then those guys. And when they really get the voices going, its pretty neat to be a part of. Okay, flame away......

cheers,
radioloon

10. Steve Talton (KCOH), David Sadof (KFNC)—I was a regular listener when Lunar Rotations was on The Buzz and when I get a chance, I tune into High Fidelity. I’ve heard Steve a few times. Not a huge fan of the station, but he’s a great personality
9. Pam Kelly (KIOL)--"Genuine" is a word that comes to mind here. She really has that something that a good DJ has. I always liked her for whatever she was doing on The Buzz. She had a great ride. I still say she was fired as part of the "Kill KLOL" masterplan. I'm just glad there's still a place I get to hear her, even if the signal and the playlist are a let-down.
8. Colonel St. James (KKRW)—not kissing ass or anything, but I think this guy is a frequent on top 10 lists on this board simply because his credentials need no explanation. I don’t need to explain to anybody why he deserves to be on this list. If you’ve heard him, you know.
7. Brandi Garcia (KBXX)--I normally wouldn't list a DJ from a rap station b/c no offense, I like listening to the genre, but the mandatory ebonics delivery is overbearing. "Yo you be listenin' to The Box. Wez gonna' hook you up with some tickets to that Hot show witcha boy 50, Holla!"
I can listen to Jay-Z and Mike Jones, but hearing DJ's adopt the same language mannerisms is annoying. Of course, I am not in KBXX's target demo, so it doesn't matter. Brandi is one of those people you meet and realize that through all the talk, there's a really intelligent person. She's also very attractive in person which is a rarity in radio (Sorry guys--and no I'm not any better--It's why you got into radio and not modeling, right?). I actually flip over sometimes to hear her show. A weird choice, I know, but I think her talent and radio career really does have some legs.
6. Zoe Bonet (KODA)--she's live and local. That alone is a beautiful thing. I think Zoe is a great example of somebody who has found the perfect station for her talents. I have heard all too many DJ's who clearly are on formats that are really foreign to them. Zoe and soft rock mix well.
5. Don Jantzen (KTBZ)—Love the “4 o’ clock Flashback” segment he does and enjoy his style. When you meet him, he’s an odd fellow. Whereas, Scott Sparks is warm and pleasent, Don is almost one of the “laugh at himself” kind. He acts just like he does on his show, which is everything from frantic to buoyant.
4. Rod Ryan (KTBZ)--By far the most unrefined talent on this list and probably the most sophomoric, but I listen to the show almost every morning. His interviews may be amateurish at times, but he has a great chemistry with Travis and Theresa and if they were going to dump Steve and Jeff (which believe me, I grumbled about), at least they got Rod. I am in his target demo, so I guess I ought to like his show.
3. Maria Todd (KRBE)--Sassy--eh, I'll just leave this one blank. Flame about this choice if you must, but she's one of my favorites in the market.
2. Funky Larry Jones (KHJZ)--He gets a sympathy vote, plus I do like the guy's work. He's been thrown all over this market and has done it all with professionalism. KHJZ isn't the ideal place for him, but it's one of those "well at least he still has work" kind of things. Never met him and don't anything about him beyond the BIO's about him on the sites of the different stations he's worked for.
1. Scott Sparks (KRBE)--Great guy. I've met him a few times at shows and at various Houston spots. He would seem a bit old to be doing show on a top 40 station targeting younger women, but that's why I love the guy. KRBE lost Sam and Michelle. They'd better not lose this guy.

Since Sam Malone is sitting out a non-compete and awaiting his CC debut, I left him off, but he has always been one of the best things about radio in this city. I'm still upset about his departure from KRBE, but money talks. Best to him in all his endeavours.

Steve Robison is “on the beach” right now, but somebody needs to give him a job. I miss hearing him on Houston radio. I’ll take him on any station. Magic, 93Q, KIOL—I don’t care! Just get him back on the air, somebody.

And I’ll also throw Bo Corona out there. Definitely not one for the English language listeners, since you probably don’t listen to Mega. I left him off the list, but he deserves some honorable mention.

One of the coolest people, too. She is extremely down to earth and fun to hang out with. She's even more hilarious off air. I think she is under utilized at KRBE.

Talk about a class act. He's definitely a fish out of water on the Smooth Jazz tip. Don't get me wrong, he has a great voice and delivery, but if you ever heard him and his crew back when they were doing mornings at KMJQ (or even KRWP), you would know what I'm talking about. I'm still hoping someone will give KMJQ some healthy competition and put him back on doing mornings there, because he sounds much better being "Funky". I also miss hearing "It's Been A Good Day" by Rev. James Cleveland, which he always played at the end of his shift. <P ID="signature">______________

My top ten are

Hudson and Harrigan on KILT
Tom Fontaine on KILT
Zoe Bonet on Sunny 99.1
Greg Morgan on the Wave
Colonel St. James on the Arrow
Donna Mc Kenzie on the Wave
Donna Franklin on the Wave
Paul Christy on KLDE
Barry Kaye Kstar Country
Chuck Tiller on the Wave

Hudson and Harrigan has alway been a favorite of mine. Tom, Zoe and Barry are on at the same time. Depending on where I am at the time and my mood dictates who I listen to. If I am in the Conroe area at night, I will make a point to listen to Barry. I like Greg Morgans voice. When he is not there I listen to Paul Christy. Chuck is one of my favorites. I listened to him for many years on KILT. I use to listen to Donna McKenzie when she was on 98.5 playing smooth jazz. I was thrilled when she showed up on the Wave when it came on. I listened to the Colonel when he was on 98.5. What was funny was to hear Chuck on KILT and become Charles Calloway on 98.5. Donna Franklin is so real. Ive talked to her on the phone. She is very cool. As you can see my musical tastes are as varied as the people who I listen to.
