Top 10 Part-Timers in Houston

Always plenty of talk of full-time people here. How about a little discussion about part-times.

Who would get your vote for top 10 part-timers in the market and why? What makes a good part-timer?

Discuss.

The top 10 part-timers (based on longetivity in the market) in Houston radio in no particular order:

1. Howard Reynolds
2. Howard Reynolds
3. Howard Reynolds
4. Howard Reynolds
5. Howard Reynolds
6. Howard Reynolds

Add colonel st James. Cheap channel has not made him full time yet even though they work him that hard.

Do cheap channel part timers qualify. Even though cheap makes them work close to 40 hours but makes them lie on time sheets to be under 39.5 to keep corp off them and that way they don't have to pay benefites. Cc has more part timers that full timers at last count they figured out fire the full timers and replace themm with part timers or add more work to the rest of the people left. That is how cc saves money with pt minimum wage earners. I know of several people full time at cheap that were fired to be replaced by a minimum wage parttimer

I think it's tragic Col. St. James isn't full time. I always assumed he was. As far as Howard Reynolds goes, all I can say is "No comment." My Mama always said if I had nothing nice to say, I should say nothing and I have nothing nice to say.

CC pays a little better than the minimum wage, but not a living wage.
The mandate on the timesheet for parttimers was 29.5 during my tenure.
Yes, there were times when the schedule reflected more hours than that, as well as times when everyone was sick or on holiday vacation. I worked from midnight-3 pm for about 10 days straight during the 2004 Requests of 2004.
As I recall, I was sick, hoarse, and feeling abused and very underpaid.
On the other hand, 10 Boston-free days.

You cannot go over 29.5 hours per week period. Any more than that you have to become full time. I have to go over time sheets to approve every other weekend before Friday payday.

Col. St James should not be on this list. He should be on a full time list. However, he tops my list. Others worth mentioning and not in any particular order:

Leslie T Travis-KILT
Tom Fontaine-KILT
Valerie Harris-KKHT
Mike Houghton-KTEK
Jason Villanueva-KHHH, KTEK
Howard Reynolds-CC
Andre Martell-KNTH
Terry Fogle-KTEK

The folks on the list are reliable and be counted on when they are needed. Are there some better? Sure, but I know these folks and what they can do. I'm very impressed with Jason Villanueva and Andre Martell. Both of these guys jumped in, learned quickly and took command of the board and ENCO, which is no easy task. ENCO is difficult because of the 'crash factor." You have to recover quickly and move on.

I've know Howard Reynolds since 1975 and have worked with him on various projects through the years. Although Terry Fogle's health has not been very good in the last few years, suffering two strokes, you can always depend on him to be on time and willing to help. Valerie Harris came to Salem from CBS. In addition to running a good board, she adapts quickly in adverse situations. She is in charge of all of Salem Houston's part timers and schedules them accordingly.

Both Tom Fontaine and Leslie Travis should not be part time. They are the last of the KILT folks who worked for Dickie Rosenfeld since the 500 Lovett Blvd days.

All of this is subjective, of course, as it is with the other posters in this thread.

Who's going to complain?

Col is part time last time I saw him he just start a second job at a funeral home because cc would not make him full time nor pay him decent he appears on more hours than he physically works thanks to forced voice tracking.

Upper management will complain to me if I let those hours go over.

Exactly. Which is why, when I was at CC, parttimers had a mandate to keep their time sheets at 29.5. Number of actual hours worked beyond that didn't matter. Recording more on your time sheet resulted in severe warnings and threats to employment.

Wage theft? Sure. That's what we call it now and that's probably what it was called then. I wish I could say I was impressed with the ethics of my management at the time, but the fact is that I was afraid of losing my job and knew I could be replaced with a voice track at any given time, so I put up and kept my head down.

I believe J.S., in her lawsuit against CC, addressed the practice, but I don't know for sure.

I do know there were others in the building at the time who were under the same mandate. If anyone wants a name to ask that person if I'm telling you the truth, message me.
