Top 10 Radio Biz Moves in Sea-Tac Market

Minor correction on KMPS. It launched in the 70s not 80s. KMPS AM 1300 came first, in 1975 or 76, followed by KMPS FM 94.1 maybe 1977 or 78.
Who were the two guys with *supposedly* the same names who hosted the 1300AM show around 1978? They lasted until the 80's when I think at least one of them retired.

Are you thinking of Ryan & Ryan? (Gary Ryan and Bob Ryan). They went on to do mornings at the late KBSG.

I believe you're thinking of Bob & Gary Ryan who worked at the old KAYO years back, then KYYX at some point but their best gig may have been mornings at KBSG. Neither one of them were named Ryan but it was an interesting approach to have the morning team be 2 people with the "same" last name. Makes recall for ARB diary keepers easier.

Gary left when Keith Abrams was the PD at KBSG (that's a whole 'nother story) and, in retrospect, the morning show was never quite the same. Bob was there for a few more years, however the chemistry with his other partners wasn't as brilliant as with Gary. They knew how to be funny in less than 60 seconds and then move on.
A few years ago Bob was selling real estate...Gary? who knows.

Gary Ryan went on to host a talk show on KIRO....then disappeared....Bruce Murdock did the same thing too on KIRO before going to Portland's KKCW..

Ryan and Ryan worked together at KRPM, not KMPS as I remember

The first morning man at KMPS was Rick Stewart, who came up from KRAK in Sacramento. We launched with a visit from Barbi Benton. After Rick, there was one jock who moved on to Tacoma and then the big time, and PHIL HARPER was still there I believe when we left in 79. I was not aware that Ryan and Ryan ever worked at KMPS.

R & R were Ryan and Linton but Pat O'Day I think decided Ryand & Ryan was cooler.

Correct....and they came up from Salt Lake City to KAYO. Can't remember if they survived the KAYO --> KSPL format transition or not; but do know it was Pat @ 77/KXA (oldies format at time) who gave them the new "handle".

Gary Ryan once joked (in a conversation NOT heard on the air) that he and Bob where asked after their first couple of days on the air at KAYO how things were going. Being the pranksters that they were Gary replied that they apparently caused quite a stir when, as newcomers to the area, they mis-pronounced the name of that body of water between the U.S. and Canada as the Strait of Juan de FUH-ka. The PD is reported to have turned as white as a ghost.

That has happened more than once...only I heard it on the air - some female announcer on KIRO back in the '80s. All I know is I never heard from her again.....
