Eastern NC does not have an OTA WB affiliate, but we're hoping they'll jump on the Pax stations when they become available. Right now it is on some local cable systems, using a station-in-a-box local ad insertion unit at the headends. They're branding it as WGWB, with local avails sold by the NBC affiliate. Other cable systems east of I-95 carry WLFL-TV 22 in Raleigh.

I'm pretty sure Rochester NY doesn't have an OTA WB - although they do have one on TWC channel 16 using phony calls WRWB. Strikes me as odd since adjacent markets Buffalo and Syracuse both have WB affiliates.

But both Greenville and Monterey are both 100+ markets and have cable WB affils.

Richmond, VA gets WB at like 3AM on WWBT-12 (NBC).
Harrisburg, PA gets WB on WPMT-43 (Fox)
Providence, RI gets WB on WLWC-28 (UPN)
Columbus, OH gets WB on WWHO-53 (UPN)
West Palm Beach, FL gets WB on WTVX-34 (UPN)

Roanoke, VA's WB is available digital-only on WJPR 21-2 and WFXR 27-2 (Fox)

Springfield/Chicopee/Holyoke, MA. They have it on cable channel 16 I believe. The closest WB affiliates are in Waterbury/Hartford (WTXX-TV/DT channel 20/D12), Cambridge/Boston (WLVI-TV channel 56) and Albany/Schenectady, NY (WEWB-TV channel 45).

Springfield/Chicopee/Holyoke is a 100+ market.

Two Top 100 markets I can think of that lack a WB OTA affiliate are Savannah, GA and Brownsville, TX. Both used to be 100+ markets and have the network on cable.
Edited by alternativemedium on 08/22/05 02:53 PM.

Interesting, since the last list I saw (we run a WB 100+ station) had DMA # 96 listed as the largest market w/ a WB 100+

You might as well say Richmond does not have a WB affil. True, WWBT/NBC carries a few WB shows at 3:00 AM, but I don't think that counts. They do no promo at all, and most shows are not carried at all. Harrisburg PA also does not have a WB, for all purposes. THe other top 100 markets listed have secondary WB affiliations in which the WB programing is carried at reasonable hours. Richmond does not have any additional channel allocations so a full power WB seems unlikely. I don't understand why someone has not put an LPTV or digital sidechannel there like they have in other top 100 cities. But what is the deal with the WB now allowing their network on local affiliations in 100 plus markets such as Thallahasse and even Helena MT?

I agree.

I was under the impression that since Tribune owned WPMT, the WB shows were aired at 11PM or something? Why would the closest thing to a WB O&O not show the WB at a good time?

WB doesn't like LPTVs. And I don't know why there isn't a WB digital station in Richmond. I'd have expected WWBT to jump on it. If not, I don't see why Sinclair didn't do it with WRLH (they obviously have the bandwidth).

I recall reading that in those cases stations are simply rebroadcasting the cable feed.

That will change soon. Viacom, which owns WTVX, purchased WTCN-CA Ch. 43. They will place The WB BACK on this channel. I say "BACK" because WTCN used to be the WB affiliate for WPB; it is seen on cable systems in the Palm Beaches and the Treasure Coast.

We here in Rochester got hosed when they handed out allocations. The market had only four commercial analog allocations - 8, 10, 13 and 31, along with two noncom analog allocations - *21 and *61. There was some talk at one point about trying to get *61 converted for commercial use, but then the era of analog TV came to an end and that allocation went away, unbuilt.

"WRWB" operates somewhat separately from the WB 100+ group. The schedules aren't exactly the same, and the programming is acquired independently (or at least it was a few years ago.) Keep in mind that the dominant local cable operator is Time Warner, and it all begins to make some sense...

I can't speak for Tallahassee, but Helena, MT is a case of Pax station going WB (which we may see more of...). Someone might ask why not CBS or ABC or Fox - but Helena is now essentially "married" to Great Falls: Helena's ABC & CBS come from Great Falls, and Great Falls' NBC comes from KTVH/12/Helena (renamed from News 12 to Beartooth NBC). That pretty much left Fox, WB or UPN - since UPN often "ties" itself to CBS, and Fox is tied to KTGF/16, I'm guessing that left WB. I wouldn't be surprised if these 2 markets merged... Fox on Helena cable is FoxNet...

KMTF-10 in Helena was a FOX affiliate until 2002, I think. Hence the call letters. I recall reading about their switch to PAX because they weren't selling enough advertising to justify paying to be a FOX affiliate. I believe that they are owned by KTVH.If not then they have an LMA. I think that KMTF is housed in the KTVH studios.
