This list is unusual in looking at shows that got cancelled and those renewed. For instance, everyone knew The Defenders would go. John Belushi is doing "Born Yesterday," a musical on Broadway, so he obviously knew he wouldn't be back. Yet the ratings for The Defenders isn't that much different than The Good Wife and Blue Bloods, which CBS will bring back.

The renewed Good Wife (a personal favorite) was tied with Brothers & Sisters, which got the ax. Two NBC shows, "Harry's Law" and "Law & Order LA" had pretty bad ratings but they'll both be back.

The Simpsons is amazing, #28 after what, about 20 years on Fox? But 60 Minutes, a staple on CBS for decades, is down to #59. At one time it was #1 or close to the top.

And did Charlie Sheen's problems help or hurt "Two & A Half Men"? It wasn't in the top 10, although it was close, #13. Meanwhile "Big Bang Theory," also produced by Chuck Lorre, was #7, one of the highest scripted shows. Should be intesting to see whether audiences will accept Ashton Kutcher in Charlie Sheen's role. After all, Dallas had two actresses portray Miss Ellie, first Barbara BelGeddes, then Donna Reed, then back to BelGeddes. Rosanne had two actresses portray Becky. I don't think audiences had a problem with that.

The writing this past season on "2 1/2" hasn't been up to the standards of seasons past. Comparing "Dallas" to "2 1/2" isn't all that compelling because Miss Ellie was a supporting player and Reed and BelGeddes were both "generic" moms. Sheen is the so-called "star" of "2 1/2" and Kutcher doesn't exactly have star attributes. Nor is the "2 1/2" role a clownish moron which is what Kutcher apparently does best.

I feel sorry for the excellent supporting cast of "2 1/2" because they are one enjoyable bunch to watch but I think the Fat Lady is clearing her throat.
