I take it this is the first time FOX ever had a show that wound up in the Number One spot for the year

It is. American Idol (Tue) finished second to CSI last
year.

Anybody else notice that NBC had exactly one program
in the top 15--The Apprentice? That would have been
unthinkable not too long ago. I hope NBC hasn't started
down the road that led to the shambles of the late '70s/
early '80s.

B. Patrick noted:

> "Will & Grace" lost more than six million viewers
> this year, averaging 10.3 million viewers a week.

The reason: In the just-ended TV season, "Will and Grace" had "Joey" as a lead-in. By contrast, the far more popular "Friends" had led-off NBC's Thursday-night schedule for the previous decade, benefitting all the shows that followed, including "Will and Grace".

In fact, had "Joey" not been a spin-off of "Friends", the show would have been toast at the end of the recently-concluded TV season. I would think that next season, "Joey"'s ratings will have to improve or else it will get the axe.

I also believe that "Will and Grace" would have done better at 8 P.M. (ET/PT) on Thursdays than "Joey" did. However, as part of the deal that put "Joey" on NBC's primetime schedule, the network was probably contractually obligied to run it in the old "Friends" timeslot of 8 P.M. ET/PT.
