What's really important is this:
Top 10 Cable Networks In Primetime: Adults 18-49 Rating (Viewers In Millions)/% difference from last year
1. USA 1.1 (1.210) -3%
2. ESPN 1.0 (1.102) -4%
3. TNT 0.8 (.950) -3%
4. TBS 0.8 (.898) -11%
5. History 0.8 (892) +18%
6. FX 0.8 (855) +21%
7. MTV 0.7 (770) +22%
8. A&E 0.7 (764) +8%
9. Discovery 0.6 (680) +1%
10. ABC Family 0.6 (678) +4%
TBS also took a big hit in 18-49, which can not be good. But then again, TBS hasn't been working too much on creating original programming, in exception for Conan. I'm sure they will see some slight gains with their syndication of Big Bang Theory and the launch of several of their pilots. USA also took a small dip. I could only imagine that their entrance into comedy programming, with the syndication of Modern Family, will help bump them up this upcoming year.
I will have to commend FX and History, they have been doing a great job this year as far as creating and promoting riveting original programming. While I do not follow History, I know that Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers is very popular. FX scored some big audiences with new shows like American Horror Stories and Wilfred and strong come back seasons for Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny and Louie (one of my absolute favorite shows may I add). MTV benefited from the giant audiences Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. Let's see if MTV can keep the interest on Jersey Shore.
Interesting that the article states that OWN ended up being tied with Discovery Health as far as viewership gains/losses. Do you think Discovery Networks is happy with these results?
I think one of the channels to watch this upcoming year has to be NBComcastUniversal networks Style, SyFy and E!. Both have been making a lot of changes on air and behind the scenes so we'll see how that works out for them.
