During the 90s at the drive in theatre I worked at, we used AM 540 to broadcast the audio to the car radios with very low power,,, but at night when the movie was over, we could always here weak CHR top 40 music coming in.... Anyway, I thought this station was long gone by now, but the other night out in my car I tuned to AM 540 and heard the CHR top 40 music still to this day but too weak to ID and mixed with other stations coming in under it.. Very weak signal... My location as most of you know is Central indiana. What station is this and where is it coming from... Ive tried googling it and cant find any CHR POP stations in the US on AM 540 that were on air then or now... Is this station maybe in Mexico or Canada,,, it couldnt be Europe cause I dont think 540 is a licensed frequency there??? Could it be a pirate maybe,, and if so,,, how could it have lasted this long,, we are talking about 15 yrs of me trying to ID this station with zero results.....Help is appreciated..... Thanks,,,,,,

Sorry for the run on sentence guys... But thanks so much for your help...

Hey Clubber...just fixed a bad ground on my AM vertical longwire & got rid of a lot of AM band noise. Have you ever heard 1620/Pensacola? It's very rare that I hear FL on AM...but I did around 3:30PM EST.

The only Florida stations ive ever gotten here where back in 1986 when I heard I think it was 660 in Miami, and also 690 Jacksonville when it was THE BIG APE WAPE.... I have tried to no end to receive a florida station since then with no luck.. I get WSB Atlanta every night, and WWL N.O every Night, but thats the closest to Florida I can get... They are almost all directional now days and are heard by more Fish than humans at night.. But BOB,,, Can you try to get AM 540 and hear CHR top 40 music for me.. Like WNOU Indy,, or DJX and WZKF Louisville... Im not fully convinced that this is CBC from Saskatewn,,, its just too far from my location, and its programing just doesnt seem to match up.. If you hear any CHR on 540 let me know... Your the closest and most Sharpest Guy thats right near me that seems to be able to pull in everything, and I know your history of Emplyment and stuff, so I know what you say is Legit. THANKS BOB...

Someone in Middle Tennessee heard CBC from Saskatchewan the other day pretty well, so anything is possible.

While I'm not a regular CBC radio 1 listener, I do catch enough of them to know what they do. In the late afterno0ns here in Ottawa, our local CBC plays a lot of "indie" music between the talk and info segments. I used to listen to CBC in Saskatchewan when I lived out west. For some reason CBC Saskatchewan was much better than CBC Calgary, and they did play some music during afterno0n drive, and it to0 was of the indie/alt rock variety. CHR doens't fit what CBC does. The only time they regularly featured current hit music in my lifetime was when they had a show on Saturday evenings called the Canadian Top 20. It was aired in the mid-80's. I assume it was meant largely for the rural and remote audiences that were mostly out of reach of the CHR's that dominated the AM dial at the time. Canada also had no national top 40 radio programmes at the time. There was one in the early 80's but it was gone by 1985.
