A New Top 40 In Cinncy?
What station in CINCINNATI is rumored to be flipping to Top 40? This could get real interesting, really fast. Action to come, soon!

Why not KISS or FOX? As for MIX, they really should look at how Dayton 107.7 is programmed. It's a much better product and I know more people (non-broadcasters) who have commented (unsolicited) positively about MIX107.7, especially Sean Vincent and his afternoon drivetime program. Words and music work....and it's LOCAL and LIVE.

If a new top 40 as good as WCLU was (or even Tantrum 95.7 circa 2000 or 2001) comes along, it would be great. But I don't realistically expect anything better than the "safe" CHR crap that masquerades as top 40 these days.

Go do a search for Radio Free Hawaii, and look at its first weekly survey from 1991. At the time, the trades classed it as a top 40 station. I'd love to do a station like that on a big Cincinnati signal.

As for being afraid to listen to a top 40 station in mono on AM, I was quite satisfied with WCLU up until the bitter end, and that was less than 20 years ago. Up until about 10 years ago, Hazard KY still had an AM top 40, and Washington DC had one later than that.

I heard Bobby D was in the Cumulus complex recently... could this indicate the format for 96.5?

Can you say.....96.5???

No I can't...country fans(especially in Lebanon) are loyal.. I'll guess 94.9 in Fairfield since they have been up in the air recently over a format change. It would be great for the station that was once "YES 95" back in the 80s..had a great sound back then although they got blown awy by the Q back then.

There's already a KISS in Cincinnati - owned by the same folks that have the stick up in Dayton. Mix's primary function has been to serve as a prop for other CC properties in this market, not to compete against them (much like Fox/WEBN).

well...I've got news for ya...Country is leaving 96.5 in appx. 7 days...94.9 is the new country frequency for Cumulus in Cincy. Thus, the need for a new format on 96.5.

I stand corrected...my apologies.

More On Those Scintillating Cincy Moves
So, what's really going on in CINCINNATI? Well, as ALL ACCESS first told you (NET NEWS 9/21) CUMULUS sold the intellectual rights and calls to Rhythmic Oldies WMOJ (MOJO 94.9) to RADIO ONE for use over at WIFE (100.3). And you'll recall that CUMULUS Country WYGY (STAR 96.5) is now simulcasting on 94.9 and will eventually move to that frequency.

Hmm....format holes? Well.....smooth jazz, true oldies, AAA (although 88.9 recently signed on), FM Talk, dance. Cumulus has a smooth jazz station out in California and several oldies outlets. Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't expect to see Cumulus do anything too outside the box. They like formats they can program in house.

I'm thinking top 40. They own several top 40 outlets including one in Youngstown. They seem to program a sort of conservative top 40 sound, which means if programmed correctly, could pretty-much spell Dumes Day for Q. I will be listening Thursday morning.
