Top 5 Alternative Rock Stations

I'm hoping that at the end of this year, I'll check back on this thread and see that none of the stations have flipped formats...

5. 106.3/98.5 WHTG/WBBO "G Rock": New Jersey Shore
4. 95.5 WBRU: Providence
3. 106.7 KROQ: Los Angeles
2. 101.7 WFNX: Boston
1. 102.7 WEQX: Manchester, VT

And an honorable mention:
WHFS (nights and weekends) Baltimore

Clear Channel seems to have destroyed most of its alternative properties.

Any other stations that should be included?

CFNY 102.1 "The Edge" Toronto (not what it once was, though...)

Indie 103.1!

Definitely Indie 103.1 in the Santa Monica area. With all due respect to G Rock Radio and the long-running KROQ, they're a little too safe and content slamming the same hits into the ground ad nauseum for my tastes. This station, however, is the real deal. Check it out if you haven't heard it yet: "http://www.indie1031.com"

If you want to expand the list outside of North America, BBC6 London and
Triple J Radio Australia are both terrific.

If you want to expand to add college stations:

92 WICB- Ithaca (www.wicb.org)
88.3 The Sting- Cleveland (http://www.wbwc.com)
90.7- KSDJ- Brookings, SD
91X- KXUL- Monroe, LA (http://www.kxul.com)

KSDJ isn't streaming right now... don't know why... but all are SOLID college modern rock stations.

Commercial-wise... I gotta go with G-Rock though.
______________

I haven't actually listened to Indie 103.1, but have heard about it, I'll have to check it out. Also, let's not forget 97X (WOXY) from Ohio, even though they aren't actually on the air anymore, but does broadcast online.

There wasn't much left to kill and Radio had already done a dandy job of doing itself in!

---

Add to the list a new Alternative station:

The RadioX Underground Network - 94.7/94.9/104.5 on Long Island. No one else is playing a four DAY rotation of music. No multiple spins a day crap. Plus heavy support of unsigned acts and local groups via several special shows.

I love Radio X. If only we had a station like this in the Monmouth/Ocean NJ area. Granted, there is G Rock Radio, but it's not a station for die hard fans of the format - they play way too much happy music (i.e. pop/punk) and third-rate grunge knockoffs and pretty much completely ignore the darker, edgier rock of the mid-to-late '90s and lots of other great artists (Morrissey, Primus, Sonic Youth, Replacements, and Depeche Mode's older stuff, to name only a few). It's good for what it is, and I do listen to it, but anyone that enjoyed its predecessor (FM 106.3 - Now THAT was an Alternative station) will find G Rock's safe, hit-intensive mix of music to be a little bland.

In fairness to G-Rock, their "Retro-Rock Weekend" is pretty impressive, even playing bands like the New York Dolls and Pavement.

No denying that at all. On the Retro Rocktober weekend, the station sounded terrific and if they could combine the diverse selection of music they played with the newer Alternative Rock, the station would sound great. I heard that they received plenty of positive feedback, but if you listened prior to that weekend and listen today, you'll notice that aside from an expanded list of currents (they have improved by leaps and bounds in this category), not much else has changed.
